i am new to this world in the aspect that i have never held a cdl but i have many uncles who have drove for a living and heard all the horror stories on how companies who offer paid training really mistreat the newbies. i am looking to get into this but witht he economy you can guess my financial situation. trying to get grants and so forth is tins of redtape and a long waiting list or waiting game so to speak then the schools themselves are booked till march to boot. with all that said there are numerous companies who can get you started right away but each one has varied expenses and varied amounts of time that you will basically be their slave to put it bluntly. some pay poor some have poor equipment and some just expect you to have too much upfront. i guess bottom line for me is i am looking to find some suggestions on companies with the least out of pocket to get into it but will still treat you resonable. lets face it the first year will be rough no mater what company i go with. its a mater of who can get me in right away with the least money and still be a resonable company to work for

need some input from you guys.

i already know stevens is a bad choice from everyone i have talked to and i have heard mixed about swift.

i hear millis is good and roehl is good but too much expense for me upfront from what i have found

Alot of states will pay for cdl training I E some approved truck driving schools. Most do it thru the unemployment offices. Im not sure how Ohio does it i have had several friends in michigan get theirs paid for.

It won't be long before state realize truck driving jobs are getting scarce and quit funding money to train people that won't find jobs .
But then if it's Federal money and a state worker that arranges funding has a brother-in-law that runs a trucking school the scam goes on .
