Here's another real stupid question for you guys...what's the point of a beam setup compared to a deck?

Can you technically get the machine lower on a beam?

The deck allows the load to get to a lower height. Rather then the wheels sitting on top of a deck. You block under the machine on the frame with hardwood and it allows the wheels to be lower then what deck height would be. I don't do heavy haul like this, but I do believe they use 6x6 or 8x8 blocks mostly.

I am sure you probably could save 1ft in height, maybe more?

Also, you’ll have the situation of the wheels being wider than the deck.

I moved a non-articulated off road dump truck once with a 96” RGN. That width allowed the front wheels to straddle the deck while the inside rear wheels rode up on it. Blocking under the front raised the truck with the raising of the gooseneck.

Yes it is for lower overall height

The machine was 13 10 on the ground

Loaded on my beam it was only 14 5

On my flat deck with a 26” deck height I would have been right at 16 tall

And that would be much harder than get around with

Also, the load had a more chowder center of gravity and didn’t bounce on the rubber tires - makes it much more stable going down the road

    @johndeere4020

Could you let me know what your 390 weighs with no bucket stick arm and counterweight? And with just the arm?

How wide and tall on your beam ?

Someone wants me to move one through a 20k axle state and trying to get a really good idea how e close I can come

    Thanks!

Razororange, Oxbow, Ruthless and 2 others Thank this.

It’ll be close to 150,000 with the boom in it, I don’t have my book with me but around 14’ 6” wide. Not sure of the height with the boom but pretty tall.

Only way to untwist a twisted arm is to increase the money exponentially according to the amount of twisting. At some point one or the other is going to scream ouch & walk away, or scream uncle & give in to the other.

Just curious why didn’t you hang some off the rear? It would have made it much easier to get around. I usually pull a 70’ stretch double drop and I know it can be a real pain at times.

    Oxbow Thanks this.
