Should I be happy with this 70k a year job even though I hate NYC traffic?

After three years of driving with the same company that hired me after I received my CDL, I find myself hating the job more and more. What we do is pretty easy to be honest. It's flatbed, manual 10-speed trucks, no tarps, unload with machine occasionally, home every night, paid holidays, making 70k a year and a short commute to work. It is just the area we deliver to is 90% the five boroughs of NYC and I can not stand the wasted time stuck in and dealing with traffic (plus cars constantly performing unsafe actions to get around me). I am thankful to still have a clean CDL after three years, but feel the longer I stay is like playing a game of Russian roulette.

Can I do better at this point with less city?

    Thats all up to you.

Money isnt everything. As long as I can cover my bills and take time off when ever I want, I'm not working any harder than I have to.

Stress is like a cancer, it eats away until it kills you.
You probably just added 10 years or more to your life. Congratulations on that!

You can do a lot better. Do a line haul job with a company like Estes Express, R&L Carriers, Old Dominion Freight Lines, and make the same or more just doing terminal to terminal/drop & hook.
Some tanker jobs are real good and don't have to deal with grouchy customers. I saw an ad the other day with Trimac Transportation doing a team regional run and each driver in the team makes over $100K.

Your screen name rang a bell, so I checked, and you said you were moving to South Carolina. What happened to that plan?

$70K is good but not great $ for trucking, especially dealing with the stress and nonstop BS of NYC. You can absolutely do better or at least as good $-wise.

Just about every city in this country has turned that way. So getting away from home will be just that, you will still have over crowded roads, at least you get to see home bed sometimes, otherwise you be doing the same thing in same conditions but seeing home if you lucky once a month.

Well that sucks, I made a long reply and it did not seem to post and now seems to be lost.

Anyway, glad you remember me Chinatown. SC didn't work out at the time. Could not find a good job or a house I liked.

That Linde Group doesn't sound too bad. Kind of far upstate though.
