I was tempted to start this same thread - glad to see it already posted and recent! I've been looking into prime and jim palmer thanks to advice on my first post - and Jim Palmer is looking a bit more attractive to me now as it seems they're a bit better on freight in the mid and north west. (I'm not so much concerned with home time other than picking up mail, but if I'm stuck east of the mississippi for 3-4 months I'd probably have to start getting mail in atlanta lol)

I would assume I'd be out longer if I choose west which is fine with me. -
You wanna be home every weekend were do you live

So how’s it’s going at the new company you must have your own truck by now .

No, they accused me of lying on my application when I left out having been to Roadmaster's Trucking School. Apparently in the application when they ask for employment history they want you to include it in this section. The recruiter changed his attitude immediately and said we can't accept you if you've been to a previous driving school and failed. He said I would need to get 6 months of experience before they even look at me again so whatever it's their loss.
Roadmaster's trained us the wrong way to alley dock and we practiced the wrong way. We had a picky DMV examiner that wouldn't let us pull forward to straight line back into the alley once we already had our trailer in the box. She would make us pull all the way out and do it all over again when we need to straighten out our trailer by pulling forward. Apparently, she wanted us to be pro and get it in 1 shot. This resulted in each one of us failing our Skills test for alley docking and had to come back for "brush ups." Unfortunately we were no longer considered a priority in Roadmasters and the next victims money would be taken. Since then Roadmaster's has trained their trainers to be DMV examiners now.
^^^^ It's still so bad they need trainers: CDL TRAINERS / INSTRUCTORS NEEDED IMMEDIATELY!
I since went with Knight Transportation and got my Class A. Now looking for local companies .Last edited: Apr 13, 2018

General question for anyone here. I posted this under the message that came closest to what I want to ask lol. But. Out of curiosity, when it does come time to get a chance to head home for a little bit, do drivers go home on the trucks? or do they take personal cars? fly back home? public transportation? how does that work?
