NEW GARMIN DEZL 780 & 785

Shocking they didn’t Release these along side the 580.

 

Looking forward to the 785 almost bought the RM Overdryve 7 Pro but will wait.

 

I have the 770.and like it most of the time. Just sent it to Garmin and got a refurb because it wouldn't stay paired with maps and weather.
They have been very helpful and care about truckers. 800 800 1020.

 

Between the Trucker Path amd ONE20map apps, I’m doing just fine. No need for those expensive gps’s. I also use Waze, Sigalert amd INRIX, all FREE. Did I mention I do have a regular Garmin gps but it’s only for basic stuff.

 

My older 7 inch screen Garmin fell from the upper corner windshield position a month ago, and the damaged the lower left portion of the screen where I can't see the readout options there. The screen still accepts touches.

Point is, I'm thinking seriously about stepping down to the smaller unit if/when I replace it. If you like to windshield mount like I do, seems the larger units are just too hard on the suction mount on bad roads and bridge abutments, and eventually it will fall after weeks or months of temperature swings. I'm thinking the lighter, smaller unit may not be as prone to stress the suction mount?

I like the larger screen, but with the position nearby I prefer to use [in Cascadia], I can probably be okay with the smaller screen even though I only refer to the GPS with quick visual glances. I keep them muted because I don't like listening to them.

 

I put mine right down near the dash. Have to clean the cups sometime. Call Garmin and be nice. They may replace it for you and send a new cup.

 

They need a slightly bigger cup for the larger one. IIRC the smaller one and the larger one, both used to ship with the same smallish cup which makes no sense.

Armor All on the black rubber cups works wonders to extend their life but once the rubber gets "permanently stretched", there's little can be done to prevent an untimely release.

The after market replacement cup sold in truck stops holds really well ... for about 9 months to a year. But certainly holds tighter than new Garmin original cup.

 

Times 2 on the last 2 posts. You have to clean the suction cup extremely well. I had a similar issue with mine and it would keep falling. I ordered a new one but it was to flimsy. So I ended up cleaning the heck out of my original one and it never failed me again. I also keep my garmin on the lower left side basically inches above the dash. I still rely more on my phone apps that are more current and up to date than my garmin.
