Have you ever gotten a ticket for bypassing a Wyoming Port of Entry?

I am wondering how much it would cost. I am specifically talking about the Port of Entry in Gillette WY. Almost every week I am driving up north on highway 50 and there is a sign saying all commercial trucks must stop at the port off of i-90 and then right after that is a sign indicating trucks have to turn down a local road to get to the port which is about eight miles driving out of route to get to that port.

So far I have been skipping that detour and have been fine so far but I know that if I keep doing it eventually I am going to get pulled over.

Then I got to thinking that it just might be worth the ticket one day. I am nearly empty by the time I get to Gillette so I am not worried about the scale, it is just that I want to avoid all that extra driving each week. If a ticket is only a couple hundred dollars then I might just keep risking it.

If you hit a open scale already in Wyoming you do not have to go in them all unless they are saying must, but then that is a strange state, I missed the port of entry once being cut off by a car passing on shoulder, they chased me down and asked why I did not take that idiot out, they were laughing pretty hard saying most would have ran em over.

I traveled that road often. Like you, I never went out of my way to go into that scale even tho the sign says "must".

I'm sure it's just a matter of time until the right state trooper wants to make an issue of it and you will be at the wrong place at the wrong time. I never did go into it.

Not sure on Wyoming cost, but Nebraska is $90, WY probably not too far off.

My take on the scales is that if they can't be bothered to put it on the road I'm on, I can't be bothered to stop.

I’ve asked if the scale people if we had to stop at every one. Some say yes, others say no. As long as you stop at one coming into the state just bypass that PITA at Gillette. Can always play dumb, and they probably will just give you a warning. There’s one in the tiny town of Frannie that I’ve never stopped at while going north.

Yeah, and my ticket was about 40 for actually blowing the scale, and about 45 for cost of the courts.

I can't believe the advice people are giving. All laws should be followed. We are subjected to the rules of the state. We do not have the intelligence to make our own choices. Please just be the loyal robots you are supposed to be.
