I have thought about it, but I don't like office work. Did it for over 20 years before I left.

i have been driving straight trucks, wreckers, rollbacks, and car haulers with 36ft trailers, i recently just decided to get my cdl class a. the last few years i have been a supervisor/manager in the automotive industry, which has dried up for me. i have a great resume, am dependable and would love to be considered to drive for you.

i would relocate if need be. i am out of michigan but that doesnt mean nothing. i dont have any reason to get home on a regualr basis, so i can go with the flow. also, i am good at keeping up on truck maintenance, so you wouldnt have to worry about the truck. i am willing to partner up if need be, but solo is prefered. i have been laid off for awhile and am in dire need of a job. i am a great employee and would be a good add to your company. any other info you need, just let me know

    Tuckster,

I don't know if you are still following this thread, but let me tell you...

Do your due diligence when hiring anyone. Don't rely on driving records and insurance companies. Really do some digging, and I mean dig.

My experience (small fleet owner) and my good friend's, a guy I used to drive for, is that you will likely have to go through at least ten drivers before you find a good one.

Trust me on that. And while all of that is going on, just hope and pray that they do not tear up your equipment to badly. Because they will tear it up, because you are rich! And can afford it!

Don't be nice, and lay the LAW DOWN. If they want the job badly enough, they will stay and do it your way. You can usually tell in a week or two if they are keepers. If you even have the slightest doubt in your gut, fire em! When you find the right guy you will know. Then you can loosen the reins and become more human with them. That is after they have proven themselves over at least 6 months to a year.

The wrong guy can make your life a living hell, trust me on that.

    Mike

You're right about that! At first they will drive with an escort passinger! And back ground is a must! My first two drivers I already know and have known them for some time but beyond that I'll have to be careful indeed.

I have received so many "applicants" that I'm not taking anymore for now. My post was a question on how and where to look for qualified drivers. It turned out I have received a bunch from this 1 post. I'm still on the road myself and am just "considering" coming off the road. My biggest concern is where will my new driver find freight ?? I don't want someone who is inexperienced and excited about hitting the road as I know how tough it is to make a decent living right now. I'm no veteran on finding loads as I only went independent in july so I know there have to be folks out there that are waaaay ahead of me when it comes to finding loads. I am being extremely careful and I'm taking my time looking for the right match. I'm prepared to stay on the road or sell the truck before I put just anybody in it. When I went independent, it was so I could pick & choose where and when I run. Instead, I have found I need to run all the time. I still believe if someone is willing to run hard, they can still make money ... not what it use to be but a decent amount. To those that have replied to this thread looking for work, thank you. I have your names.
