I had asked on another thread about low oil pressure I thought it was fixed. Well it blew up last week spun a bearing on the injector cam metal though the whole engine. Cummins took the pan and valve cover off I'm waiting a quote from them they already said 20-25k range. My truck is a 2000 classic I put a lot into it basically all redone except paint and interior so I would like to keep it. Engine is a 99 so eld exemption I like that. What are some feelings about rebuild I have the money but that's about it. Would it be better to drop a n14 in it or even a 3406b or E my local shop could rebuild with aftermarket for $15-20 I've heard some aftermarket are as good as oem. He said he would use Mcbee if he used aftermarket. Give me your thoughts atleast I was close to home so I'm dealing with people I trust.

If you get the cat or n14 will it be freshly rebuilt? Or unknown? You'd hate to do that then be looking at another rebuild on whatever you get in relatively short order. I would spend the money and rebuild what you have, then you know you should be good for another what, 600,000-1,000,000 more miles? You would likely have a different major issue before having to look at the engine again. Trans, clutch, rears, etc.

    Diesel Dave Thanks this.

20-25 k on a Detroit 60 sounds way high. What do you need? Oil pump, main n roads, cylinders and pistons?

Isn’t the rebuild kit for a series 60 under 3k? + oil pump and labor should be @ 13k give or take

They would most likely be used engine saw a few with 250-400k on rebuild but then again mine was suppose to be rebuilt when I bought it. Guy had no paperwork so I gave a offer 10k less than asking he took it so I knew it was not. I don't fully trust what people say when selling stuff to you.

It's a signature 600 Cummins or early isx what ever you would like to call it. If I had a Detroit I'd feel a lot richer right now

I think that was a 855 if I remember right. The signature ran from 97 I think to 02 or 03 Cummins calls it a isx it was like a test run for isx.
