Do you park wherever you can at truckstops?

    Parking troubles at truck stops?

I don't have 'em. Reserved parking every day in a lot that's never full.

(Translation: I drive a day cab, park my truck in the same spot every day and sleep at home)

    :p

But, when I did do the OTR thing, I maintained a vampire schedule as much as load/unload appointments allowed for it. During the times I was forced to be solar powered I can't remember having too many issues with finding a place to park.

iv been known to invent and spot every now and then. i generally avoid inventing spots on the end of a row or a corner where traffic is turning as i don't want to wake up to my hood being removed.

i am parked at a grain elevator tonight. sometimes its better to think outside the box than park somewhere your likely going to get hit.

Ya a grain elevator is pretty safe. Impossible to hit those.

If he had a hopper on I'd say he was looking for a faster way to load.

Ok, I'll quit harping on it. I figure if an O/O that has his own equipment, books his own loads, chooses his own route, sets his own speed and hours can't do it, it simply can't be done. I stand corrected.

You're absolutely right. It is all about trip planning. Every load I have is live load/unload. I have very irregular running times. The one part of trip plabbpla that nobody talks about is making adjustments in the midst of your run. You may game plan to park at this one spot for a 10. Things happen that force you to adjust your plan, like traffic jams, extended time at the dock etc. How many times have you planned to use your 30 min break to take a shower and that got derailed because of an unforeseen circumstance? Part of driving is making adjustments on the fly. I also think where one gets fuel is important too. I have a list of truck stops I won't get fuel at. They're always too busy. I came out of PA last night. Coming down 81, themat flying J in Winchester can kill your hours. It's always busy. I'll just go to that one on exit 273. You can get a shower there too. On top of that, they have cheap fuel

I tend to plan my trip, start the day earlier than most, and park near the back. I often luck out and get to park at customers, both shippers and receivers, so I don't have to deal much with truck stops, thankfully.
