wow big difference, I don't think I can find a low mileage d12, haven't checked yet to see what a complete overhaul is

I. Had a d12 years ago good durable engine vanderhaags.com has some $3500-6500 with 6 mo warranty. I heard good things about them that's were I bought my engine guess I'll see. You would have to call to see about miles. The Volvo dealer by my house told me $13-15000 to rebuild my d12 without injectors that was 10 years ago prob twice that by now.

I can't complain about this d12 its got 1.3 million on it and only routine things plus an air compressor with a blown had gasket because someone (not me, really) decide the air compressor head was a good pry point for a crow bar. I deleted the egrs which I think helped it get this far.
Some additional information.
It hadn't start for a week as I am trying to decide the next move. Today I was warming it up to pull a another oil sample (I changed the oil changed just after the last one which had the coolant in oil and only have about 1.5k miles on this oil change but thought it may have just been a bad analysis). Anyway got under it prior to starting it and seemed like there might have been a small amount oil (drop or two) around the weep hole of the water pump. I didn't really feel or look like antifreeze which had been very slowly dripping from the water pump the last month or so, and it that had all dried up by now. So I started the truck and let it warm up (still no smoke after a week of sitting, ran good too) and got back under it and no anitfreeze from the water pump weep hole.
While I was under it I had someone pump the brakes and cycle the compressor and sure enough here comes the anitfreeze slowly oozing out the weep hole. I thought hmm another air compressor head is bad as (I mentioned I had already been through that and took me forever to figure it out the first time). So I took the cap off the radiator (and left it off) but no bubbles like last time and it never has blown out the relief valve like last time. I had a GREAT theory that the air compressor must run off the the water pump gear therefore the air compressor kicking on causes more pull on the water pump gear causing it to leak. Crap if my Volvo dealer ruined it though when he said they weren't connected..........oh well back to the drawing board. (its very hard to find a picture of the front lower gear drive train by the way). Anyway I am going to try it tomorrow with just revving it up with the air compressor off and see if it leaks as I didn't think to do that tonight.
Thanks for the input on the used ones and rebuild cost, I was guessing 20-30k! -
My friend has 1.9 million on his D12 engine still running good. He changed injector cups and turbo. No overhaul yet.
Very long lasting and low maintenance engine. I never heard piston liner or head gasket to go bad on D12 engine. Try to take off oil pan first and check liners from bottom if you can see any coolant leaks. Check simple stuff firstD12 Owner Thanks this.
