If you want to get technical about it a driver is on duty while in meetings. Sitting in Safety during an audit. Writing up your truck to get worked on. There is the letter of the law and then there is common sense. A driver that uses common sense works the least amount of time and gets things done and still stays safe.

In over 29 years of driving I have never had a DOT leo ever ask the garbage brought up in this forum, just went threw a full inspection in west bound Banning scale, passed, received stickers for both tractor and trailer, elogs inspected no problem at all. And Banning is probably the toughest scale in Ca for inspections. -

There are plenty of legal actions that impede safety on a normal day.
No reason to sit and pick on the petty stuff. -
