I remember a Swift driver a couple years ago posting he hauled a few loads of elephants.
Was that @Powder Joints or someone else?hopeful eyes, Farmerbob1, UturnGirl and 6 others Thank this. -
For me it was a load of air. Somehow an empty trailer got sealed and had nothing in it. I took what I thought was a loaded trailer from Spartanburg SC to Macon Ga. I laughed empty all the way to Atlanta. Yes I took note of the weight when I scaled. However my weights were legal and I took it on.

Slinkys out of the Port of Long Beach going to Ohio.
They'd been handled so many times it was like trying to tie down Jello.
Nightmare the entire trip, but somehow I made it.Last edited: May 6, 2018

A load of politician brains, when I decided it was time to go home.

A couple of seacans. I wrote about the heaviest already. that's one.
Another was where 4 gaurds and a sgt interrorgated me carefully before handing me a 40 foot box going to the med. The BOL had 60000 pounds and item count one. Nothing else was on it. Hazmat? (No kid. get going.) what is it? Shut up kid, Uncle sam knows you just drive it. That one went from south york depot down towards the docks well enough shadowed by some vehicles all the way. picky picky picky.
Sometimes I wonder.
Anyway.
The worst would be a load of home depot racks, the kind they install into the stores before they open and put stuff on them for sale. They piled it high like a 2 year old playing pickup sticks. Here I am with 7 3 inch straps only with binders wondering how do I secure this ... this... pile near Jessup Md, the King of rude and aggressive traffic. It's oversize everywhere sticking out beyond decking, over height and a big fat mess.
Im supposed to haul this pile 17 miles to a holding ware house near east jessup.
To this day I get little bit upset when that load is jingling back there trying to get bounced off that whole truck and the radio is singing jinglebells from the truckstop making silly comments. jingle jingle jingle.
I could tell it was spreading out, taking up more volume of space around the truck becoming more oversize by the mile. And the straps pretty much quit the last mile.
I made that one.
I made the mistake of going into dispatch and giving him what for for handing me that load.
The most fun.
Richmond school district. Roofing material foam bundles in sheets from Atlas near Camp Hill PA, and it's in the rain. Construction worker says we have nothing to unload you with today what do we do? argh.
We got together, the oldest of us three had a idea. Put her into 5th start off and copy what I do.
He moved onto the football field using the racetrack pavement to gain a burst of speed then J'ed her into the 50 yard line at about 35. The load bounced clean off his deck.
Number two and then me did the same thing. All were piled up nicely in that football field something like 200 yards from the building roof being built in the rain.
He signed us out empty. Delivered etc. Bye.
I gotta wonder sometimes.Farmerbob1, coastietruckin', Guerr0 and 4 others Thank this. -
wow, I was wondering if folks did that, like we do with a pickup truck...
Go fast in reverse and slam on the brakes, instant unload !!Grubby, Lepton1, WesternPlains and 1 other person Thank this. -
Most nerve wracking load was 2 cases (24 bottles) of 100+ year old red wine from Napa Valley area to Seattle. The customer on the delivery end paid over $300,000 for the 2 cases and paid big bucks for a dedicated reefer truck set at 55 degrees. They were wrapped onto a single pallet and I put a load lock on both sides and drove like a granny all the way. I heard rumors that they were headed for a billionaire who may or may not have been the founder of Microsoft.
My dumbest load was 10 plastic kiddie pools from Portland OR to California for a K-mart. Total weight, about 20 pounds. They retail for under $10 a piece.Farmerbob1, coastietruckin', 417bigK and 9 others Thank this. -
WOW !!
