and the difference of how you are treated by a company when you are in there truck wether it's leased or company is night and day compared when it's your truck wether leased or bought outright. when you have your own truck most companies go out of the way to keep you happy that hold over you is not there ..... can you get a truck payed off eventually leasing a truck from carrier. .. sure and it's an easy way to get started and with most easy ways it usually turns out not to be the best way or the smart way

It's this very naive thought process that keeps these leeches in business. You may complete the lease. It's rare but people certainly have. However, this way is the worst possible way ever to "own" a truck.

In many cases, in order to make the miles necessary to make it work at their laughable rate, you need 2 logbooks which means you've either got to be a husband/wife team so the entire check goes into the same account, or agree to train so you get paid for the miles your students run. Either way, by the time you hold title to the truck, it's used up and wore out...more so if you've had a never-ending string of "students" grinding away at your gears...and with it not being much more than a "fleet spec" rig, it isn't worth a whole heck of a lot.

Every L/P you can find someone who pay the truck off and someone who failed. It's not up to the lease it's up to you, a lot of drivers have high living expenses which they cannot afford after the lease payment taken out. Chances are those type of drivers will never make it no matter how great the L/P program is. Youtube (island trucker)

Much of what you say is true about "legitimate" lp. But there are many that are set up for the driver to fail. That when the driver is nearing pating off the truck, the freight dries up. Or in the case of my carrier, months before the lease is complete, the truck needs an engine, and they decide it's not worth fixing, so they give you a new truck, and you start from the beginning.

I spoke with several drivers at Carrier One in Chicago. They do lease purchase on brand new 2019 KW 680 with apu. The drivers I spoke to were both experienced and had owned trucks in the past. The numbers sounded high, but I think the truck payment if you bought would have been high too.

I have to admit that I am very happy where I am. Wish that I would have started here long time ago. Was talking to one of our company drivers one day and he was young and telling myself and 2 others that can not make any money being a L/P. He was bragging about making .50/mi. Told him that I would compare my net check to his gross anytime and he took me up on the offer, and then he got sick. After all of my expenses, my net is between .70/mi to .75/mi. Honestly, I barely run more then 2800 miles per week and this is my choice, and I can choose mostly where I run. We do not run west of I-35 and I do not go east of Ohio. Mostly I just run Midwest to Laredo and back to the Midwest. End of summer they are starting a load board and %. Mostly I am drop and hook. I lease can work as long as it is one that you really check out. There are many naysayers, and from what I have learned, many of those are some that tried it, did not work out for some reason or another, and mostly find out, it was their fault. Were I am we have only have probably less then 100 l/p and we are treated way different from the company side. Our own DM's and planners

Dude no offense but id plant flowers in my truck as a lawn ornament before i ran it for 20 to 25 cpm over what a company driver gets. Health insurance savings is at least worth 10 cpm. Plus you have Workmans comp. Matching 401k. Paid vacation. employer social security contributions. These things have value. And they add up to more than 25 cpm.

But he ONLY runs 2800 miles a week, chooses MOSTLY where he wants to run and he has his own "driver" managers and planners, Spyder. It never ceases to amaze me how blind some of these guys are.
