what was the WORST or CRAZIEST thing you have ever hauled?

    I think it's accepted practice in the food industry that it can still be called fresh if shipped and stored at 28 degrees. I've seen chicken, fish and beef in super markets semi-frozen and marked as fresh many times. Years ago I used to fly to Alaska to go salmon fishing and we would ship whole fish home in salted ice water. You dump a bunch of ice over the fish then throw in rock salt. It would make a saline water that was very near freezing and would stay that way for a couple days for the trip home.

    You have to see the orginal contract, some of the large accounts buy x number of loads/loaded miles, they pay for them used or not, it very well may have not actually cost them anything extra but used mies they would have to pay for anyway

    Needed a washer...had no pickup truck. TN Sherrif was on the lot when I got back with truck. Drove off after I strapped it. Guess I was blowing his cover to catch folks.

    I'm surprised you remember this, yes I hauled elephants a couple times for Barnum and bailey. To and from the rail yard in both Anaheim and San Diego and I hauled their reptile trailer from Anaheim down to San Diego.

    Had a load before that was a single Palet too, was something pharmaceutical and I wasnt allowed into the trailer but the contract said I had to watch the unload of it ....that one pallet was 500 lbs and I went from Arizona to somewhere near Los Angeles with it.

    There is a facility near OKC in Oklahoma that took my truckload of frozen beef patties for McDonalds.

    I remember that load because the people there for whatever reason did not treat me very well. I was on time waiting from noon to 5Pm when finally empty. Frozen product all the way through.

    In a period of time where things were not going well at home here in Arkansas due to failing finaces wife and I worked at the McDonalds doing two separate tasks each night. Once they put her on the fries and put me in the beef stove near the burger assembly people with a very good and powerful stove to cook the patties right, everyone was happy.

    There was a two minute clock on those things and then flip for another 50 seconds.

    What I learned to do is cook one minute, flip cook two minutes flip back cook another 1 and 20 seconds to final done. It could handle 12 patties, but I always cooked no more than 6 at a time.

    In addition they provided me with that little bit of sauce material in a shaker form. Like salt and pepper for example. But it's not salt and pepper, it was some kind of corporate steak type flavor that went onto the patties for flavor purposes.

    That town appreciated my work in terms of cooking well for the burgers. I do not recall any complaints what so ever with the particular exception of short under cooked patties for which I would attempt the customer to get into something else besides a undercooked burger from god only knows where it came from.

    When the scandal broke on that particular type of burgers with which I cooked with a joyful heart feeding hundreds of people each evening, about the sources of the so called pink slime I made sure to gtfo of there. I did not want to be associated with crappy burgers.

    To this day I have yet to order a McDonalds burger. But Sysco meats and other products such as sesame bread buns and other toppings etc makes for a attractive meal to the non jewish people. To be fair 2/3 pound lean sirloin beef patty with 7% fat and huge buns from Sysco makes for a very good base for everything else you cared to add to it in the way of toppings.

    Those days are gone when we closed that tavern years ago so that the Relatives can retire to florida and visit other peoples taverns looking for good food, company and so on.

    at first, it seemed odd that a company would pay for one pallet, for one piece of product, when they could have shipped it USPS, FedEx, UPS...

    or, chuck it onto a trailer with other freight..
    but, in later years, i think it was so that the product would not be damaged, would not get mixed in with other peoples freight, or stolen, as it is MUCH easier to trask, one trailer, one driver, one pallet.

    i do not believe back in the day, any delivery service had the tracking they have know, and the immediate delivery communications. i know when I get a package delivered to my house, with in seconds, i can check online to the delivery company..."package delivered"

    back in the day, all those delivery services, when you got a home or business delivery, you only signed the the guys delivery sheet. the next day (or 2) THEN you can call them (still not online yet) and confirm a delivery

    My craziest load was a 80lb Jon boat. Delivered a load of boats in PA. Dealer had a return boat for some factory warranty work. I had a RGN at the time. So I built a nice bridge 5 feet in the air and secured it. The CB comments were priceless
