I'd love to see this defense in a speeding ticket case.

There is some truth to what they say. Common law was eventually replaced with "statute" law with Erie vs Tompkins beginning in 1938. The Uniform Commercial Code started to materialize 4 years later.

I had one of those morons put a 53 Trillion dollar lien on my house after I arrested him. After 90 days it was supposed to go to 4 quadrillion. Needless to say he spent time in a federal prison after that.

I hate to break the news to the op, while that sounds like a good fantasy, the use of electric speedometers have been covered in the regulations of the us dot and is an accepted form of indicator of speed. It is not like a hand held device or an eld but rather part of the vehicle when it was made.

    ??

The gps receiver is only accurate to a certain limit. The speedometer is allowed to have I think 3 or 5% latitude.

While you're correct about that, the counterpoint is that many local politicians are writing and passing very loosely worded laws regarding "electronic devices." They have passed just limiting it to "phone" or "texting", and are now writing very broadly defined "electronic devices" which would be fun to argue would include a speedometer.

All of the regs I've seen state "handheld (or portable) electronics device"
