I hope driving doesn't make you drowsy.
That's what we do.
POUND THE GROUND.
HOUR AFTER HOUR
How often do you actually drive 11 hours/day?

Its the nature of the profession. Its tough initially, but you get used to it.
If you're not driven (no pun intended) to work as much as possible while you're out and away from your family, it may be a bad choice to start this career.NavigatorWife and Woodys Thank this. -
Best bet is drive somewhere that doesn't do a lot of picking up and delivering on firm appointment schedules. With these, maybe you have to run long and hard, occasionally not

Drive 11 2 to 3 times a week
Lepton1 and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
I think some guys have more of a tolerance for driving and driving and driving without stopping.
I did some driving delivering the mail at one point in a tractor-trailer and the scheduled was ridiculous. One run was a 13-hour straight shot that you probably had enough time to get a cup of coffee and maybe go to the bathroom without being late.
I'm not interested in doing anything like that ever again. I also did line Hauls they were just a straight shot pedal to the floor 8 hours 9 hours 10 hours of driving. Not interested in that either.
There are a lot of different segments of this industry. Some guys can do that and not even think twice about it. It's not for me at least without stopping to take some breaks and stretch you out etc etc.
If it's not for you you have to find a local P & D place or local driving or something that's maybe Regional that you don't have to travel so many hours for so long.
It also probably helps if you're an owner operator and you're running for your particular paycheck for the money you think is right in your own nice comfortable truck
It's always hard in a dirty company truck that is governed and you're just plain not that comfortable in it. Especially if it's a little day cab running those kind of hours.
It's always nice if you have a gig that you can run for a few hours and then stop for a little bit and you won't be late on your appointments.Brickwall and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
I doubt you would see 11 hour driving days everyday, you would run out of hours and need to sit for 34 hours resetting your clock. I rarely ever drove consistent 11 hours days one after the other, I usually drove 8-9 hours a day and just ran recaps so I didn't have to sit for 34. It's all about managing your time. I did a few 11 hour back to back, and it was only if I had a place to reset I needed to see the sights, or had something there I needed to do.
You will find as you get experience behind the wheel, the occasions where you drive 11 and have 14 hour days, you will find it is just another day in the rolling office.Lepton1, NavigatorWife and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
To and from our pickups, we use up every hour. Once we are there we drive during the day around towns and depending will park and sleep at night around 6-8pm. If the next stop is in a different city, one of us has to drive into the night and get us there.

I don’t do that . I know many O/O that don’t do that , to the contrary I feel like driving should be enjoyable. Hard work but I enjoy it. -
I drive about 4 hours for a 12 hour day. About 5 for a 14 hour day.
If you're not looking to drive for a long period of time, try looking into P&D. We even have one guy who drives a whopping 60 miles for an 8 hour day. -
I can't fathom getting a driving job if one does not like driving. Thats like being afraid of water and prone to seasickness so you get a job as a Commercial fisherman.
