Hi thanks in advance for help.
I'm currently in Southern California between Oxnard and the San Fernando Valley and I'm just about ready to apply to prime for their flatbed otr schooling and training in Utah. I'm 28, in ok shape and I'm not really tied down to the area. I'm also open to moving to Salt Lake City since I have friends there if there's an opportunity there.
Before I sell off my next year with Prime, want to make sure that there aren't any opportunities I missing that would be more regional (home weekends) or local. Or if there's a better option than prime for flatbed. Also open to driving other trailers, I just feel like the van or reefer life isn't what I'd prefer.
I'm hesitant to pay for my own schooling before having a job lined up but it is something that is doable. Would a company guarantee a job contingent on me getting my class a?
I know this might be kind of vague but any help would be appreciated.

Forgot to add, my end goal is to do car hauling in the next 2-3 years maybe if that changes anything. Or continue flatbed if I like it.

So you're in Simi Valley right ?

The written word rules, so if Prime wants you to sign a contract, read every word of it and get a lawyer to explain parts you do not understand.
If you will be signing a contract in Utah, find out if the state has a cooling off period that allows you to back out of a signed contract with no penalty.
There is a huge shortage of truckers in America, so if you can pass a drug test, have a clean driving record, can pass the truck driving physical and don't have a criminal record/warrants, then you are employable in the trucking industry. And if you are a responsible person, you won't have a problem finding work.Last edited: May 24, 2018

If your not “tied down” move to Joplin, MO and apply at TMC. You will get home every weekend if you do your job and you will have a great parking place at their terminal.
And no, not Des MoinesMcUzi and Croissant329 Thank this. -
If you are unemployed or underemployed, do a search for WIOA Grant. If you qualify they will give you a list of local schools and will pay the tuition for you.

McLane hiring for warehouse.
Get on then tell them you want your CDL. They’ll get you your CDL.Croissant329 Thanks this. -
Don't let prime put a manual restriction on your license or you will be bound to work for a mega carrier only. You will make more money at smaller companies that will most likely only have manual transmissions.Last edited: May 24, 2018
