I hit a deer a while back that demolished the front right side of my truck and recently got it fixed at a local body shop. The repairs look great and everything but I see now that they used an aftermarket headlight assembly to replace the busted one on the passenger/right side. The left side is still factory OEM. All of a sudden I start getting the “Check” light on dash and message that says “right front turn indicator malfunction” Ok, so obviously I replace the bulb, nothing. Trace the wires and disconnect & reconnect everything, nothing. Shut the truck off and let it cycle thru a couple times and bam, the message is gone! Ok cool, well about 200 miles down the road it happens again. Shut truck off and cycle ignition and of course it goes away. Another 200-300 miles down the road and it just happened again. What in the world is going on here? Anybody ever ran into this issue? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

I’d bet the chineese headlight is already trash.

The lights are controlled by a computer. If it is not the original Oem light the resistance may be different. It will show a fault because of that. The LCM needs to be reprogrammed.

Reprogrammed for what? If he has the same type of light there should be no need for reprogrammimg. If he put LED’s, that’s different, but not normal replacement halogen headlight.
He just have poor quality chineese lamp, that’s it.

Yeah they are not anything special like the LED or HID, just the regular stock halogen lights that uses the factory bulb #’s so it definitely shouldn’t need reprogrammed. So is this issue the symptoms of a cheaply made light?

Cheaply made bulb socket and or bulb. Make sure bulb is installed properly as it looks like you have intermittent connection somewhere.

That’s my bet. Usually wiring plugs on aftermarket headlights give most problems. They just don’t plug in tight enough and electrical connection is bad.
Or something inside the lamp. Try to see if your repair shop will take it for warranty claim.
Burnt bulb would give you a „turn signal open circut message”, not malfunction.

Ok thanks for the info. I remember the bulb looking cheap and not having a brand name on it anywhere and yeah the pigtail where the bulb clicks into place is definitely mass-produced in a Chinese factory lol it just doesn’t have that solid feel like the OEM does. Also forgot to mention; the code I’m getting has an FMI:6 which is circut short to ground or input volts above 16v. FMI 5 is open circuit which usually means bad bulb from my experience
