None of that is relevant. Who cares if you can operate a car on a closed course at a high rate of speed in a straight line? Big whoop. I have no issues running an 18 up a narrow road with the outside duals hanging over the edge of the pavement and my mirrors 6" from the mirrors of oncoming trucks. Hills, curves, and narrow roads make me happy...anyone can set the cruise and hold it between the lines on the interstate. Navigate your way through a jobsite that should've been bid for class B tandem dumps, and there you are with a 39' frameless. Or better yet, back your way up a narrow gravel lane that winds its way up hill to a job site to dump off...I've posted that video a few times now, let me know if you'd like to see it again.

There's a difference between being lucky and being good. Bad habits make you lucky if you haven't wrecked. Myself, I'd rather be good.

 

If you're watching your mirrors like a safe driver with good habits does, you'll see traffic approaching, see them beside you, and adjust your speed to manage the space around you by clearing them from beside you. Nothing should happen around the truck that you aren't aware of...even without hood mirrors. Adjust your mirrors properly and those blind spots become extremely small.

 

A vehicle under your door will still be invisible unless you either look out the door and down or use your front mirror. Amazed you don't know this. I have "situational awareness" when needed. Thanks for your concern.

 

I love my hood mirrors.

To each their own but anything that helps reduce blind spots is good IMO.

I also like my windshield clear. My gps is mounted on the face of the dash.

 

...is any time the truck is (or is about to be) in motion. If you are lost in your own little world as the miles tick by, those few seconds it takes to regain that situational awareness "because you need it" wastes precious time and limits your options.

 

With my cat-like reflexes I have time to spare. If you are trying to tell this forum that in the course of 11 hours your are always at 100% and never stop looking in mirrors I don't think it will fly. I believe most people with a CDL know when to be on guard, and when to cruise.

 

From what I've seen, most people with CDLs don't drive much different than they do in their cars...with their head in the same place. If you aren't striving to be better, you're willingly and actively part of that group.

Your luck will run out eventually...I just hope nobody I know is in your path when it does.

 

Not sure what you're trying to say there. I'm just as cautious and aware of the big picture when in my 4 wheeler as I am in the big truck. Is that bad?

 

Wouldn’t it be easier to just drive how you and drive and let him drive how he drives instead of crying about it? If you check your mirrors every 2 sec and he looks every 5 min does that make you loose sleep at night ?

 

I guess it's too much to ask that professional drivers drive like the professionals they claim to be...
