Under my own authority, do I need to carry all sorts of checks to pay for unloading? For example, comchecks, t-checks, fleet one, EFS, etc. I’ve heard typically the broker will pay the unloading fee, but won’t different brokers have different accounts and, therefore, I will need to carry different types of checks on my truck?

Well consider the difference between issuing a check and receiving a check. You can issue a check for payment from an account like comdata for instance, assuming you have $$$ in that account, right ? Then, a broker can issue you a check (but actually it will be a #) that you then cash or deposit. So, payments from you to vendors will be a check that YOU have $$$ in. BTW, they're all the same and just as accepted anywhere. And payments from vendors TO you will be most of the time numbers that you use to cash it. Or even deposit at your bank.

If brokers are issuing the check it is usually Comdata or EFS. If you have a fleetone account, get checks from them and do it yourself. Scan the receipt in and get reimbursed. I use my Pluschecks for all lumper fees and get reimbursed. Many brokers charge a fee to issue a check for the lumper.

Find out how much unloading pays $$$ ???
You can collect $250.00 for a half hour of unloading yourself. Look into it.

How hard is it to simply get a couple of each at the truck stop? Most have them behind the counter to give out.
Toss them in your permit book and that way if you need them you have them.
    Don't need many of each.

A lot of customers won't allow this anymore because drivers would charge outrageous amounts with no real proof.

I have a fleetone account and just cut a check from that and send the receipt to the broker. 95%of the time I don't get charged for unloading. It's either negotiated into the contract with the customer where it gets direct billed to them or they don't charge you at all since they order the product, lol.

Call the check people, they will mail you a whole box of checks for free, they want you to use those checks so they can get their fee..
