In your experiences what has made you enjoy the job more being company or an owner?

If u're comfortable making around $1000 per week stay company, but if u have mouths to feed and college tuitions to start saving up for better buy a truck, i bought mine 3 months ago and im making two, some weeks three times the amount of money i made as company, even after all insurances (truck and health) and fuel is deducted, everything except taxes of course

i am company, and have been nearly all these 40 years now. i can support my family on my salary, and always did, i don;t need the extra headaches of truck ownership.

we have a nice home (paid for) all kids (4) went to college, and i paid for 2 weddings, and i can still retire headache free, and with a nice retirement account. when i have home time, it is MY time, taking care of MY things and FAMILY things, and not taking care of the truck, equipment, etc, etc.

just my 2¢ on being a company driver, over being an o/o.

If you own an EPA truck you will have the advantage of also learning Diesel mechanics. ;)-

O/O for me (well leased to a carrier that is) 20 years now. I prefer being able to run the truck the way I want, spec it my way.
And even maintain it where and when I want, I always hated having to get permission and a p.o. from a boss for repairs that I deemed necessary, and they thought it could wait until some roadside inspector thought it needed to be fixed.

I enjoyed it as a company driver. Might have had a lot to do with a wide open 6nz w900L+chrome+lights and paper logs and a boss that turned a blind eye to my wildness. I made good money as a company guy. Got bored of that and have my own truck and authority now and I still enjoy trucking. I will never go backwards for any description of a company driver job. Maybe someday I'll have multiple units under my wings? Who knows...

Bought and paid for 5 trucks in the last
33 years and always been happiest that way other than the 5 years I spent with a small private carrier .
Back with my own again but it isn't for everyone.

Lepton1, lynchy, shogun and 4 others Thank this.
