what was the WORST or CRAZIEST thing you have ever hauled?

I hauled a sealed load into a building in Michigan. Picked up from an empty warehouse in California. Had to call every 3 hours along route to this number and had two vehicles escort me. Delivery was into an empty warehouse where they unloaded it and put it in a military truck.

Lightest was 1 pallet size plastic crate. 300 lbs from Ontario to Laredo

 

Were there black helicopters flying above you?

 

860.000 USdollars in quarters!!! 43.000 lbs of quarters. Police was escorting me all the time

 

I did the landfill thing, but probably the craziest thing I ever hauled was almost 50,000 pounds of copper wire. It was in a container getting shipped to Japan if I remember right for computers.

 

Yep, we believe that one. Also the black helicopters and US Marshals that arrested the state trooper that tried to pull you over after blowing the scale....

 

That would give even a livestock hauler pause, I think. Hauling two 5 to 10 ton beasties with a center of gravity six or so feet above the bed of the trailer.

Beasties strong enough to turn over the empty trailer if they were outside their cage.

Something spooks cows or pigs in a livestock trailer and the weight might move a good bit. Spook an elephant, and all hell could break loose.

I wonder if they had to tranquilize them for safety, or if there was a trick like covering their eyes. Not sure how covering their eyes might work though. Elephants can do almost as much fine dexterity with their trunks as we can do with one hand.

 

Load of potato chips over i70 from iIlinois to Vegas. Had to follow company fuel rout threw i70... Lots of bang bangs going off in the trailer.

 

Most annoying trailer I ever hauled was nearly empty.

Someone had dropped an unwashed trailer at a chocolate shipper. Two weeks earlier. In early summer.

Onions had been the cargo, and it had not been a clean load. Probably a few dozen onions worth of forklift-crushed onion goo on the floor in the reefer.

I was there to pick up a different load, but was asked to shag an empty trailer to a washout and then bring it back.

'No problem' I said. When I opened that trailer to make sure it was empty, the stench of two week old rotting onion paste made it difficult to close the door again.

I did take it for a washout. They used a sanitizer that smelled like lemons. I normally turn down scented sanitizers, but this was a special case.

I brought the trailer back and went straight to the shipper. I let them know that the trailer had been washed but really needed to stand open for a couple days, and even then might not be suitable for a chocolate load. Told them to call our dispatch if that was a problem, and we would swap it out, but I did not have the time to do it personally.

They had me park it in an out of the way location with both doors open and the reefer off.

Called my asset manager and let them know the situation, and what I had done, including what I had told the shipper.

I have heard that loose-loaded potatoes or carrots in a reefer can be very bad too, if they are not carefully and quickly cleaned out. Never hauled any loose produce myself, though.

 

Thats exactly why i carry plenty of peanuts.. You just never know when a elephant going to knock on your driver door at night.
