FYI: to all those whom own a DD series 60 EGR engine 03-07 . The system has to be maintained.
For the EGR /turbo to work right. You have to tear down systems and clean it 4 times a year. EGR Cooler does clog . If EGR is acting up is do to clogged EGR cooler.. The clog will drown the the intake manifold with soot.. U have to take manifold off and clean it and put new sensors in and put back on..
also if possible stay away from reman turbos. They are junk. You can get a new Garrett for the same price as a reman. Check out pitpower.com for exhaust manifolds, turbo blankets, exhaust wrap, and better exhaust muffler.. Be aware the all the accessories attached to the engine block relay on eachother..

I'm a diesel mechanic up by Portland Oregon, sorry I haven't really ready the whole thing, just a sentence or two but it sounds a lot like you have a chipped or badly scratched cylinder liner or broken piston ring, would leak oil into and burn it out fairly quickly, may not see it at load because of the boost pressure blowing against it and thinning the smoke out but at idle may see a very slight white smoke with a little black in it and may smell a slight oil burning smell, unless the exhaust housing seal broke on the turbo, but I doubt it, looks like it might be time for an inframe, if you wanna save a little money, pull off the valve covers, jake brakes, cylinder head, oil pan, and just unbolt the rod caps and slide out each piston and check for split rings or marked cylinder liners, if so, get a liner puller and take in a piston in good shape with a liner in good shape and have freightliner measure it with a dial caliper and give you a new one to replace the bad one, install the new liner, lube the liner and piston, slide it in with a compression sleeve and put the cylinder head, oil pan, jakes and valve covers back on and it will take you a full day or two to do but even with buying the tools will save you so much, a basic inframe is around 7k from a private place and upwards of 20-25k from a dealer, just my advice, may get you another 200k miles or more

You cannot just replace a liner and piston... In frame it properly with OEM parts and be darn sure you are in a competent shop. Been there and done that.
