People that have never driven a manual transmission car in their life tend to learn how to shift a Eaton trans quicker than people that know how to drive a manual transmission car. Why? Because manual trans car drivers have a tuff time trying to unlearn everything they learned about driving a manual trans car. Synchronization vs unsync

Thank you Cam for the note of caution. I remain optimistic I can adapt. Last fall I had the pleasure of adapting to driving a manual transmission in Scotland. Yep, right hand drive manual transmission. Took to it quickly and successfully. And it was a blast. You make a great point though, one I'll surely keep in mind. I thank you.

I know of a woman who is a trucker-snowbird: Summers in the Bakken (ND) and winters in the Permian (TX). I'm starting with Sage school in Ft. Pierce, then going to try to sign-on with CTL in Tampa. I'm 49, but worried about the possible stress test for tankers.

@PossibleFutureTrucker I too am looking forward to a second act. I think we'll be fine.

If you got the stamina to drive day after day week after week companies won't mind what age you are, in fact there more likely to hire an older person cause you got lots of wisdom which should help you in the rigors of daily life.

If you have the money go to a cdl school. I'm 45 been a plumber 25yrs needed a change and paid for school no contracts and a wide variety of companies to choose from. I'm still a rookie did my 4 weeks with a trainer who fortunately was a great guy and learned a lot. Driving dry van and loving it! Btw no flip flops or automatic here!

I'm 60 and know guy's my age that still flatbed that being said ..you should have no problems as long as you get your physical , have a clean MVR and can adjust to the life style. being an OTR driver isn't a regular job it is a lifestyle with irregular hours..get some exercise daily if it's just getting out of the truck and walking ..watch your diet you'll be fine..some companies like us older guys for our maturity and life experience...

They very much like and want older drivers. We have common horse sense. We are responsible. They love us. We have worked good for them.
You’ll find it takes some adjusting to get used to this. I’m 7 months in and am doing better. Or let’s say easier for me.
    I’ve always liked Prime.
Definitely have to have an intelligent life form in the truck. They won’t allow it? Forget them! Too many companies allow.
My company always needs help in Ohio. I don’t know what the problem is? They will train. But not cdl school. I do love doing pneumatic trailer. I feel sorry for what the reefer drivers have to put up with.
