Finishing my last week of phase one training. Told by my trainer he won't approve my upgrade.

    There are valid reasons;
I hit a concrete pylon with a trailer. First night in a loves parking lot.
I hit another trailer with a trailer. Three weeks in after pulling in due to fatigue.
I have had no practice backing. Trainer says all the practice I need is on the swift YouTube page

Where do I go from here?

I will be off the truck in three days he still needs my DOT hours to complete this run, but says he will not waste time with training.

I want to keep trucking and am prepared to go further into debt to do it the right way, community college?

Still not 100% sure England is gonna fire me but my trainer seems to think I am beyond hope.

Have you ever heard of G.O.A.L.?

    Get Out And Look

That's what you should be doing (whether you're a newbie or a seasoned veteran driver) when you are manuvering into a space where you may not be too sure of the clearances.

Two preventable incidents while training is unacceptable, regardless if you are fatigued or tired, you should've G.O.A.L.

Ask for additional training backing up, but if you get termed, there's always a job flipping burgers, and most nowadays pay better than driving a truck, and you can go home every night too.

You should try a different trainer. I think if you have the enthusiasm with a trainer that has patience things might improve. And stop hitting things, don't they teach GOAL at England?

Trainer sounds like a jerk. Don't get discouraged.

To me, it sounds like you need to slow down and get out and look more often. Backing takes practice, a lot of practice and patience.

GOAL and England have a complicated relationship, there is a pass/fail cap of two GOALS on all maneuvers.

If you do choose to use them you'll be told you are holding up traffic and on using your second the trainer kicks you out and parks it for you.

Well that doesn't sound like a very safe company. I'm taking note to keep an eye out for CR England trucks and stay my distance from them. Too much in a hurry instead of being safe

Are you saying they discourage you from getting out of the vehicle and looking at how to improve your backing skills. That makes no sense.

Then he's not much of a trainer. You'll hold up traffic a lot more after you hit something, while you're taking pictures, filling out paperwork, and exchanging information. The point behind getting out and looking is to spend a little time doing it right, to avoid wasting a LOT of time/money after you do it wrong.

Your comment about the trainer "needing your hours" to complete the run is part of the problem with the megas...they DON'T train. They put you straight into a team situation and run down the road. Half the time, that "trainer" doesn't have much more experience than the "trainee". The blind leading the blind, and people wonder why nobody knows what the hell they are supposed to be doing.

Of course you can “upgrade”. Almost anything after leaving C.R. England is an upgrade

He and the trainer shouldn't have even had a conversation about his DOT hours. Before you get into a truck, you meet your DM/fleet manager/rookie contact person/whatever they call them. This is the person you are to talk to when things aren't groovin. A trainer may tell you that he has godlike powers but this is the person the trucking company has in place for you. If there was a problem, like you're not getting any backing practice, this is who you call. And that BS about the GOAL, I will bet that was made up by your trainer.

The absolute amazing thing about it all is how every driver in the world can warn you about England, YET you all will still go. How about some music?

    YO!!!!
