Hello,
The company I work for needs to get a dedicated trailer for freight maybe once a month/six weeks or so. Right now we're going through a couple different companies that specialize in LTL freight but will contract out the job. I figure we could just skip the middle man and hire someone directly and am not sure how to find a driver then how to properly vet them. Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

Where are you located?
-
So if I understand you correctly, you'll have a load ready to pick up every 4 to 6 weeks, and you want to contract the job with a driver to haul it for you?
-
"Great for a backhaul"
"Cut out the middleman"
"Get it done cheaper"
"Pay for quality service"
One of these things is not like the other 3. -
Quality over quantity
-
hard to find a independent to haul once in awhile frieght ... landstar might be an option or find a smaller company in your area that runs a few trucks
-
Full load, 5 stops.

Thanks for the help. Even the replies that were no help.

Who is hauling it now, i suspect drivers brokers send? Talk to the driver's, find one (or two or three) of them that is local, or runs that area often. Make them an offer. At a minimum keep there numbers. Give em a call the week before load is ready.

OP is missing information.
The phrase “Dedicated trailer” that could be a few things.
You want a trailer sitting on site at a dock door to be loaded as product is made?
You want to have only company products on that trailer?
Having a trailer sit for weeks like that is going to be out of the question for most small fleets and Owner-ops.
One trailer load at 6 to 8 weks, your better off just keeping the load with a broker.
