I asked that way, because my advice wouldn't do you any; good if you work in the middle of Cornfield, Iowa. But if you live near a big town, and don't have your heart set on OTR, see if there are any freight terminals hiring dockworkers. Look at beverage distributors, food services, or grocery warehouses, as well as others. Many of those places will train their own drivers. You already have a small advantage on most other new hires, though you'll have to work inside for a little while to prove yourself.

I failed road test fist time. I was at trucking company school and they were 3 party testing for the state. So the trucking company was certified to do the road test for the state. Even they failed me. So I had do another week of training/driving. I passed the second time.

They always said they would train us till we passed the test. They did tell me not everyone was cut out to be a truck driver. That was 23 years ago, ha ha that funny looking back on it now when they told me that. It was not funny at the time.

Maybe you can go back and finish the class and take road test since you did not quit.

Gordon food service is usually hiring drivers that have permit. Might want to check them out.

Any time you exercise your grievances and escalate to the next higher in command by going over someone's head, you have every right to attempt any possible pathway to get the little more time needed to get that backing down.

I'm assuming you know the name of the first instructor who told you to pound sand and going over his head to the name of the second instructor who deemed you a insubordination Person and should be kicked out.

Take this information to both the Dept of Labor in your State and also the Better Business Beareu (Spelling) and find yourself a work place type lawyer and retain the same.

If I was a training school and a waif came to me with a empty bowl saying with tears in eyes "MORE?" May I please have more? while the rest of the bullying class giggled behind his back?

I will absolutely make sure that this Oliver got his thousand bowls or hours of training that night until he got it down. Not just down but get a good sleep come back the next day and show me again the lessons stuck. The entire class will have to endure the same training until they all got it down too.

Your first instructor treated you badly. And your instructor's Boss and presumed owner of the school nailed that spike into the coffin of your future and buried it ensuring you aint getting a #### thing into your request for MORE?!

Your Lawyer should at this point become a instrument of attack with one goal in mind. A complete and total recovery of he lost tuition money paid to date and due as well as the possibility of a small amount of punitive damages.

When a child asks for water in the desert you, wise father does not just hand him a stone. Not once but twice? Unacceptable.

Consider getting things down on paper. Name names, who said what when what time of day and overall situation and problems plus fears you had with the upcoming test.

I have a feeling that if I was schooling you and you were afraid of backing still, I will give you a thousand days to learn this before kicking you into a truck and go get that test done already. It will then be totally yours to fail or not. Don't fail.

But these two instructors stiffarmed you and told you you to stop whining and wipe your slobber and forget the training. To them you have failed already.

Never mind all that. Let your lawyer know what you would like to do against them in terms of recovering tuition and probably some punitive damages as well as immunity from collection effort by any other party such as the trucking company.

Become a lion fixed on a dinner kill tonight. Make the kill, eat well without regrets and when the smoke and dust clears you would rest a little bit and go find another school to work with you better.

OP says his driving is good, but was unsure of his backing.

I would bet that if asked his instructor would say he was grinding gears and clipping curbs, AND his backing sucked.

I would also wager (albeit a small wager) that the conversation with the lead instructor was more along the lines of "we have other drivers scheduled for the backing range this morning, we will work you into the schedule. In the meantime your previous check rides all said you need to work on X, Y, and Z."

When an employee truly gets the shaft, then by all means get the lawyer involved. But not here.
