the moral of the story ….do not venture more than 20 mi from home without some $$ in your pocket. Not sure why so many newbies are dead broke and then get into trucking.

Because trucking has been a "Last Resort" type of job for the last ten years or so.

Think about it. Minimal training and commitment to make "Big Bucks" according to the recruiters. Every recruiter tells you "It's all taken care of! We care about you!" So the wide-eyed newbie shows up in prime position to get royally screwed.

It's not like trucking companies are targeting low income, limited resource or opportunity communities or anything. They know EXACTLY the type of recruit they want. And it ain't most of us here on this forum.

My friend interviewed "graduating class" of trucking course. Not one of them employable by his standards. Just lazy deadbeats, ya they got the hat and the chain drive wallet. maybe ok for pin to pin work provided there were no schedules to maintain.

We got an influx of decent drivers in '08 when the entire economy crashed. But most of those cats are either retiring (they weren't all that far, timewise, to begin with) or returning to their "Real Jobs" in the rebound. The modern crop are crap. Young, stupid, over-entitled, rude jerks. This, of course, excepts the vanishingly few young people joining this field because they WANT to, because they have been forcibly ejected from mommy and daddy's basement.

We are not seeing a large number of young, skilled, and interested people deciding to be truckers because the field overall offers very little to entice them. Live in a truck about the same size as an average prison cell for weeks or months at a time for $30-$40,000 per year? No thanks! There are plenty of other options with the same overall training period that earn more income more quickly and offer better benefits and treatment out the gate. Welding comes to mind. So does CNC Programming and Machining.

If I had to do it again, I would've gone for Machinist, myself.

Maybe.... Though they seemed pretty focused on bashing the company in the original post, surely made time for that.... Seriously, how hard can it be to get home from a city anywhere in the USA? Not like he's lost in the tundra of Alaska or the outback of Australia.

It can be very difficult if you’re left high and dry without any funds available.

I've been down and out a couple times and started at a new company with bearly enough to eat on till I could take an advance and make it to my first payday.
People always jump to the conclusion that's it's due to bad choices.
When it could be a stitsuation like having been off work for a bit then winding up in emergency surgery with out heath insurance then being restricted from going back to work for awhile because of the surgery.
Or many other reasons. If life has never sucker punched you and then kicked you while your down you'll never understand how someone could wind up in this position.

Maybe he should set up a GoFundMe page? And some of you can send him cash, help a fellow trucker.

Donald Trump has failed and been worse than broke several times in his life. Yet he always came back. :)
