We have all autos but my truck is a 10, don't know why they haven't given me one. But i enjoy the shifting it keeps me strong in that area. I can still do a three point getting in out of a truck.

See, that's great to hear. My wife does a 5 point, she's kinda tiny, haha...but still does it all with a plate in her arm. She has her CDL (2 year) with no problems. It's do'able. I didn't mind the auto at all....I really like the Mack setup....but I'm back in a 10 myself... fine by me. The 18's were kinda annoying but.....adaptation is key.

Personally, I don't want a 6 speed. I'd rather go auto first but that's just me. Need the manual override for backing is all I know, haha!

It seems like you are saying you have a complete right arm, it is just severely impaired.

If you pass a DOT physical, you will likely need to drive with a CDL automatic restriction.

If you can grip and support some weight while climbing into the cab of a truck, then your chances are good. If you can't, then you are an accident waiting to happen if you ever drive in conditions cold enough to see ice, and i would suggest staying away from full size trucks for your own health.

However, I have recently heard that Schneider actually has a program for non-CDL straight trucks. I know no details about the requirements to enter that division of Schneider, but some non-CDL straight trucks might be safer for you to get into and out of.

    I can shift and
I can shift. And use a three point stance to get in and out of truck. I can grip steering wheel. My top part of shoulder is locked up. My strength is coming back, just not fast enough. I don't drive in ice. Local City driver. I do about 180 miles a day.
