Hello
Have a question, are 10 hour rest breaks supposed to be undisturbed or did something change, just found out today that an oil field service company can call you on your 10 waking you up because if they need you right after your break and expect you to be driving into work while on your 10, this seems out of place but I ask again if some DOT rule change or just a company thing, how are all you oil field service drivers taking your 10, does your company call you to get you up?

I guess it depends on what kind of job you have, there is no law saying anything about an undisturbed break. Don't know where you got that from but it's BS. If it bothers you to have an employer call on your break then silence your phone or shut it off.
Tb0n3, rabbiporkchop and Crude Truckin' Thank this. -
When you are taking 10 hours to REST. It means YOU time REST UP.
PULL battery from stupid cell phone and silence the qualcomm. No one gets through to you to bother you while you rest.
Hopefully in a quiet spot away from anywhere so they cannot find and bang on your door.
Once in a while maybe two times into my entire life I have made exceptions to make very specific and special task when off duty or resting or something that says I don't even think about work on my OFF time. Makes for a very happy boss who returns that of something special with various useful and profitable rewards for a time usually because they know they don't bother me for nothing when it's me time, not truck time. -
There are some exceptions, well, maybe it's only one exception, for oil field workers, but I'm not familiar with it/ them due to, I don't work in the patch.

If you don't want to be bothered turn off your phone. But you may miss out on a good run when you decide to check messages
Crude Truckin' Thanks this. -
Thanks for the replies, we have to keep our cells on, just noticed this today, call you after 8 hours to get you up, next 2 hours your getting ready and driving into work, so where is the 10 off, heard from my brother that at his job the drivers are at work strapping their flatbeds and that's considered rest, I think we are starting to see companies creep into OUR rest time demanding us work for free and not be well rested, be interesting to see where this started and by whom.

If you don't want to deal with this, find another place to work. I get many times when I am home where my 10 hr break invovles driving my pov to and from the terminal. I get way more rest when I sleep in the truck
I don't work in the patch, but many times I've did my pre-trip way before my break was over. A lot of times I found something I needed to to care of so I'm glad I did. -
Working local it is normal even outside the patch, say food service, to only have exactly 10 hours off between dispatches.
As for the uninterrupted break, FMCSA guidance clearly states that brief communication from employers does not interrupt the consecutive rest hours. See the regulations section of the FMCSA website for their interpretation. -
You guys never pulled into a dock while you were on your 10? Reefer that is pretty normal. Never heard of this idea that your 10 is sacred.
Oldironfan Thanks this. -
Wanna make money? Answer your phone. Need sleep? Shut off the ringer. Simple as that. I will say that I didnt make the money I made last year by not answering the phone.
Oldironfan, Woodys, Rubber duck kw and 2 others Thank this.
