IMHO, if I were an O/O with a fleet, I'd hire someone like you in a heartbeat, straight up. I'm not Ridgeline and he never DID SAY WHY it was a nope from him...... and I'm not tagging him on purpose.

    Best wishes, mi mano. LMK.

I ran into a one-armed driver in Baker City, OR. He didn't even have a nub.

I was #####ing to him that I had to chain all the way from Pendleton. He said he had to chain a lot where he worked, one of their pickup sites had like a 20% grade. He was pulling some kind of hopper or dump, can't remember.

Didn't ask him about the arm, but he seemed pretty capable. I don't think he was driving an auto either.

    Anyways, good luck op.

    OK ... why?

Because if you have issues with nerves and have losses in any arm and/or hands due to a nerve issue or a problem with a joint where your arm or elbow freezes, then you are a liability to the carrier and safety of the public at large, not my idea - it is reality.

More importantly if this happens while you are driving, and you can not react property to an issue on the road - as in having your both arms used to avoid an accident - and are involved in an accident, then you're on the hook for anything that happens even if you don't cause it. I can tell you that there are lawyers out there who specialize in trucking and know how to find things out about a driver that the driver don't even know. This would be a payday for an ambulance chaser because we live in a highly litigious society in a industry that is a target, we have to maintain good physical condition with all working limbs and hands outside of special considerations.

BUT as I said, if you have a limb impairment, you can not drive.

That means until you have a Skill Performance Evaluation (SPE) and a waiver by a medical examiner, you're off the road. Having your right arm lost strength because of you shoulder being locked up, means that it is serious to get it fixed or properly diagnostic to go through the process. It doesn't matter if you are in an automatic, it doesn't matter if you are left handed - it matters that you can't use your right arm and hand to do your job safely to the FMCSA and the states.

Hope you all understand that I am not trying to pick on anyone, but I spent enough time to make sure my liabilities are limited for all in my fleet and not to have a lawyer leverage one or more issues that an ambulance chaser can use to get money out of me.

Ouch. If it is a rotator cuff issue, I hear that the surgeries to fix such things have a very high success rate these days, and can result in almost normal capability with the arm again.

    Good Luck!

Went to a motorcycle rally and I saw this bike. That’s the clutch master cylinder at the end of the bar. Then the clutch lever, brake lever and brake master cylinder. And guess what...that’s the throttle too. You guessed it, the rider was missing his right arm. Notice that it has both forward and mid foot controls too. He has to change his foot positing according to the ride in order to hold on.

Very inspiring to see some people refuse to take no for an answer or allow disabilities to prevent them from doing what they love. You’re going to try to rehab that shoulder. That’s a difficult path. It’s never impossible, however.

    Luck in battle.
