    I am looking at getting back into flatbed work after working LTL for the last few years and I just talked to a recruiter from L.J. Kennedy. The pay sounds really good but I would love to hear back from anyone who has worked there in the past or is an active employee. Thank you in advance for any and all help. I have also been looking at a co. called PI&I simply because they pay all of the medical ins. for the family but they are mainly steelhaulers which is in the toilet right now.B.T.W this is my first post on this site.

    Just incase anyone wants to know. I have an interview set up with L.J. Kennedy tommorrow afternoon. they are looking for 10 drivers that live in the Buckeye and he is scheduled to interview 17 drivers. It was explained to me that not all will show up but if they do they will still receive an interview. I will post any and all information on here after the interview is over about the pay and hometime as well as the equipment. I will only supply this info to hopefully help another driver that may be looking for work.

    I have no info for you having never worked there but I am curious as to why they need 10 drivers based in Ohio. Sounds like they may have some new business or an existing customer that ships that way.

    There have been discussions on other sites and one driver even had a blog for a brief time, but I don't think the info has been updated recently. If I ever want to go gack otr (and pull flatbed) I would definitely give them a call.

    I, for one, would be interested in reading about your experiences with LJK.

    Hey Ragman do you know where the other message board or blog is so that I may read it and gain more knowledge about this outfit before I make the choice to go or stay where I'm at. The answer to your question is yes, they have recently acquired a new customer in the Indy area and the freight goes east from there so I guess drivers living in the Buckeye would work out well. Thanks for the help and I lokk forward to hearing back from you.

    I can tell you this. Most of their terminals are within a couple of miles of drywall plants. Do you like hauling drywall? That's their primary commodity. Then lumber loads to get you close to a drywall plant again. I can't recall ever weeing a Kennedy truck that wasn't tarped.

    Thanks for all of the info. guys. I will check into it more. Marinevet I have never really hauled drywal......is it something I will want to stay away from?

    I have not worked for them, only ran into and talked with a couple of their drivers while I myself was in flatbed. They were generally satisfied with LJK. Trucks were in good condition. Pay was (is) about average. Sheetrock is probably the easiest product to tarp and strap, besides shingles, if they do shingles. The main issue I had with sheetrock was loading/unloading wait time, but hell, it's part of trucking. Then the weather issues were the next pain-in-the-rear. Hot/cold/wet, u name it, gotta deal with it. A good square load should be 1/2 hour MAX to tarp/strap. 1 hour to untarp/strap. Hardest thing to do was learning just how tight is tight enough w/o breaking the sheets. Corner protectors do work, but there is a point where the strap will break the edges.

    Nothing wrong with hauling drywall, at all. As draginman said it's about the easiest to tarp and strap. It's heavy, so it's never stacked very high. That being said, you'll be loaded to the max, when hauling drywall. Slow going if you go into the hills or mountains.

    o.k. guys I just got home and here is the info I promised.Payscale for a system driver is as follows..42c.p.m includes 2c.p.m. for saftey and attendence bonus that is paid on a weekly basis.15.00 paid on every load that is live loaded and 15.00 paid on every load that is live unloaded.There is is no payment if trailer is already loaded.10.00 for tarping a load.25.00 "expense cash" for every night you sleep in the truck.100.00 if you sleep in the truck on the weekend. Not taxed.9 paid holidays per year including your Birthday paid at 110.00 per day.3 personal days unpaid per year.1 week vacation after 1 year of employment paid at 550.002 weeks after 2 years.3 weeks after 5 years.I hope this helps. they are supposed to run my MVR and DAC this week and let me know if I am "L.J. Kennedy material. I'm sure I have forgotten something so if anyone has any questions feel free to post on here and I will reply as quick as possible.

    That doesn't sound too bad. Especially the live load and unload part. That's easy money. Just wait to eat your meal when you're getting loaded. Another thing about drywall, it's pretarped usually. All you gotta do is strap and bungee it.
