Advice for Father

i am OLDER than you, maybe even OLDER than God, and I DO NOT have a smart phone, i have a flip phone, and i also have a landline.

but to my credit, my landline is the push button type, not the dial type!

 

I had a buddy pull flatbed for Great Wide and he crashed and burned. I think it's because he tried to lease on there. He only hauled broker freight for them.i don't know how strong their customer base is on the flatbed side but I see more of the dry vans and reefers rolling down the highway.

 

If your dad was taken aback by the cost of getting started, he will s*** a brick when he sees how much day to day costs are. If it were me, I'd sell that truck and trailer.

 

Even my smart phone is a rotary dial...just 'cuz the times are changing doesn't mean you have to change with 'em.

 

Not so true weedchopper. It was the people who are in the 50 to 60 age range (and bit older) that built the tech industry. Most of the technology you use today was being developed years ago.

 

The key to great wide is which agent you deal with, I believe that one can make good money here, just have to find the right agent, the big problem here is a lot of guys Fall pray to the agent sign and dance of how good they are, and get stuck with them for 90 days, I can tell you from experience, because it happen to me for my first 90 days, cannot move my truck are anything, so I know how these agent are, that is why I tell guys come here but don't domicile with on agent keep your freedom,

 

I do remember him mentioning something about an agent. He went into this eyes wide shut though. He leased a brand new KW and that truck note was about 900 per week. He had a sorry agent for real. He may have got maybe one good load bi weekly. Other times he was just barely making the truck note. My question to you is, how you avoid getting stuck with a bad agent for 90 days? After the 90 days, what's the next step?

 

You can leave the agent if you don't owe them money, but one of the things is ones leave the agent and go Central, if you want to go back to a agent must leave the company and wait 6 month to reapply, some of the agent is are better than a broker work for almost free, I run agent loads know, but it is dedicated run power only, not a lot of people know that they have power only and it pay very well, one have to come and learn which agent is worth your time

 

That would be true. However, only a handful are einstein.

There's always someone to build the technology. But not everyone will want it or accept it or have any need for it. Generally speaking, the older generation. They've lived their entire life just fine without it. Why would they want it now.

Kind of like the old hens that argue on this forum.

They got by just fine with nothing more then a roll of quarters for the pay phone and a paper atlas.
I remember them days
They scoff at us using newer, better technology.
I wouldn't dream of doing the job without it these days.
And like you said. The tools we use today. Were invented by people THEIR age.
