I'm a student with Werner right now. My first trainer's truck did not have an APU. He idled it none stop the few weeks I was on there. His idle percentage was 75%. I personally saw that on the Qualcom. He stated he rarely ever turned his truck off in the two years he worked there. He also stated he was encouraged to idle less a few times but that was the extent of it.
My new trainer (10 times better BTW) has an APU and his truck does shut down after 3 minutes. Kind of annoying at times but it's the way it is.
What is Werner's idle policy???

I feel sorry for you I was a student last fall. once you get your 275hrs in they will figure to keep you on for another 50-100 hrs. at the same pay of 300.00 per week.
then they will send you home. tell you they don't have any trucks available .
all they want to do is use you. they make big money off of you. I got a truck work my ### off until jan 6 2009 when i was not needed any more. don't plan on drawing unemployment it won't happen. werner lost some walmart accounts. move others to take your place. wait till you see what they do with your dac-report.
"WERNER DOES NOT CARE" I ALSO THOUGHT THAT SLAVERY WAS ABOLISHED. -
Werners idle policy is that you are supposed to be at or below the idle avg for whatever division you are in and it is based on a monthly average.
For example if you run midwest regional and all drivers in the midwest are at a 35% idle avg. Your goal is to stay below that.
I havent had any problems tho with idling my truck. In 4 months I was asked once because i ran my truck for 19hrs one day. I was out of hrs and it was -10 where I was. I just exsplained that the truck would have froze up if I turned it off and they havent bothered me since. -
Just idle...i do!
