Is there a dot requirement..for sleep study...if you have a certain BMI ? ...No don't think it is....as for now....it's just some companies requiring it..and those companies just happen to sell cpap machines...what a coincidence

Just depends on the doctor and how you answer certain questions. I have a BMI over 40 and a neck size over 18" and have never had sleep apnea even mentioned during an exam.

If you go to the big corporate chain places like Concentra, they will diagnose you with life threatening sleep apnea before you even get out of your car.

BMI is a ridiculous criteria. I’m 6’1, 248 lbs. On a recent assessment I paid to have done for body composition, I’m only 17% body fat. But because I’m very muscular, my BMI is 32.2.

Nobody looks at me and thinks I’m out of shape and especially obese or even overweight. But according to this sillyass criteria some use, I’m a “risk”. Some people really need to get a clue and have no business assessing the health of others...

it's up to the company you work for as to what they do about the recommendations from the DOT exam.
small companies don't just follow all the newest mumbo-jumbo put out there.

I got a 1 year card this morning due to high blood pressure. I was two points off from a 2 year card.

Nothing mentioned about a sleep apnea test or snoring or anything like that.

Actually, being heavy is a risk factor (not a guarantee) for sleep apnea whether that weight comes from excess fat or large amounts of muscle.

Not my problem but I would want a family physician doing my tests as it seems BMI and sleep apnea are somewhat up to the doctors discretion.
Medicals in Canada are less critical. I know guys that are near firkin' dead, winded just dragging' their fat butt into truck and they pass their test every 5 years.

    That's way too high.

I carry a BMI of 19 and they eyeball me as a potential developing obesity.

if you are a 43 on BMI, you don't exist on chart number one. You might want to visit the link within the site to table two.
