If am the happy approved purchaser of a Pete 379, but my original plan to run has fallen through as the company I wanted to lease onto has stopped allowing O/Os on for the moment. I planned for this, I have several backup companies on my short list and one is Panther.

My weekly breakeven is around 1200 at 90 cpm, my preferred mileage is 2-2.5k @ 90cpm to pay truck and house bills. With the higher cpm Panther is toting the breakeven is like 700 ans the preferred is like 1.4k so yes I am interested. Less work same money sign me up right?

There has to be a catch. My question is with frieght like it is can 1.4k miles be acheieved weekly with Panther, is there enough expedited frieght hauled in a semi still?

You're hoping there is enough... can't say I blame you!

Look at the worst case. Can you survive if there is only enough freight to support your fixed costs, fuel and a bit left to feed yourself with? Can you do that for six months? A year? Eventually the economy is going to turn around, but until then you have to survive.

Yes, I have other companies that have the limited miles I need to be ok, so I don't want to get involved in expediting if 1.4k mls a week on a team semi truck cannot be achieved. I personally think i'd like the expediting gig otherwise.

With Panther they have an age limit on trucks, so you might want to make sure it isn't to old. If they pay mileage pay I'd stay away from them being they are most likely gonna be ripping you off!

Another thing to keep in mind, expediting probably isn't real busy since other companies are willing to do it for alot less!

I interviewed a couple driving a HINO straight truck the other day
They are getting around 2000 miles a week team $1.20 a mile
Things are ruff they have a 2007 paid off and they are a married couple doing team or they wouldn't get that many miles
It was like 10 degree's out so I didn't get to spend as much time with them as I wanted
I think Coonass drives expedite flat bed he might be able to chime in

I work for a company in Indiana. We have 5 tractor trailers 4 streight trucks and a few sprinter vans.We have our own freight base but, sometimes we run brokered loads through Panther.
The good things I know about Panther is that their loads are usually light.Alot of automotive freight.I have hauled some loads that were several stops and then delivers to an automotive cross-dock.Another good thing is Panther will load a streight truck load on a semi.
The bad things I know about Panther is I hear they make sure you run legal. This means you may have to pass your load off when you run out of hours. Also,I see a lot of Panther trucks hauling automotive freight into an area like Detroit,Mi.and then the area is flooded with empty trucks all needing a load.
I delivered a load this week to Toyota in Georgetown ,Ky. The Pilot truck stop had 7 Panther expediter trucks in the lot.

The expediter carriers don't have a surplus of E units (tractors ) like they do straight trucks and vans so you will stay busier . Check with FedEx Custom Critical also . Customers don't hesitate to pay the higher expedite rate because they need exclusive use of the truck and they need it ASAP . Running legal is not a problem .

Just my opinion.I consider landstar one of the top in the industry for there freight base.

And right now as it stands there is just no frieght to be moved anywere.Alot of people sitting for days and days and when they do get a load its very cheap.

My suggestion is find someone and anyone with a great solid customer base right now. This will help you stay busy and pay for that 379.Its not landstar right now. There is just to many trucks not enough loads..

Its been like 2900 loads a day and 10,000 landstar trucks.

SO MAKE SURE WHOMEVER YOU GO WITH HAS SOLID FREIGHT.I DONT CARE IF ITS SWIFT,JB ETC,ETC,ETC,...AS LONG AS THEY HAVE ALOT OF WORK AND LOADS TO MOVE THEN THAT WOULD BE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ON MY MIND RIGHT KNOW...
    IMO
