I just wanna say great posts guys, trust me I get what your trying to say, I dont have unreasonable expectations when it comes to this business. I know I am not gonna make any money and I can live with that. On the other hand a little bit is better than nothing. Its not just trucking that is slow right now, there arent alot of jobs out there period! So I am left with not too many options.

If you try to look at it in a positve way now would be a great time to start in this business, while everything is slow if you can afford to sit alot you get to learn the job at a slower pace and hopefully when things pick up again you are ready for it! (it sucks, but I'm just trying to remain positive!.....lol)

Things are that desperate, NOBODY is hiring ANYWHERE!

Flipping burgers for $300 a week or gaining experience in a career I want for $300 a week? EASY CHOICE IN MY BOOK!

I can understand why people look to trucking. The at home jobs are going away. Some people do not want to uproot and move only to find where they moved the jobs go away there too. At least in trucking the job is on the move and you don't have to move to do it. Yes times are slow, but all these jobs that you keep saying you can do and make more than trucking are getting slashed as well. The pay is getting lowered and too many people are applying. At least with trucking you can find work. Might not be the best job, but it is better than no job.

Look in your local paper. Where are all of these better paying jobs you are talking about? A man has to do what he has to do to provide for his family. Trucking is usually the first thing that picks up when the economy starts recovering. Freight may be slow, but most states are out of money for unemployment. A little pay is better than no pay. Plus all you guys talking about bailing and going local that alone will make openings in OTR and will create more competition for local work.

I know where you are coming from. I wont say I've been in the trucking business for forever cause I am sick of hearing me say it. You can talk until the cows come home, they are not going to listen. Those people who arent, at least trying to comprehend what you are trying to tell them, arent going to believe anything anyway. 1POD and I have tried to explain planning, buying trucks, brokers, sailing to the moon and everything else to some of these people and they just dont buy it. They are going to reinvent the wheel. They think we are idiots who don't have a clue. I am a pretty optimistic person but also realistic and there is not rosy picture to be painted for the industry right now. Maybe a little down the road but not right now. Everyone is chasing a dream and you can't blame them for that, but being realistic is a good thing to be too. Yesterday I came to the realization that it does me no good to explain things on here. Very, very few listen. Don't mean to sound mean or bitter but that's just how I feel. Maybe after a pound of Hershey's chocolate, my attitude will improve but I doubt it right now.
