I assume the people who were killed were off-camera behind the camera truck, at the back of the line somewhere? I wonder how far back behind the camera truck?

I ask this because it's an interesting feat if the out-of-control truck hit vehicles at the back of the line, veered left around other traffic, then veered back right into the front-most vehicle at the head of the line, and clipping the camera truck somewhere, and proceeding off the right side of the road into the shoulder.

One would think, being at the head of the line, with other heavy vehicles stopped behind you, you'd be safe from harm of an inattentive driver. I guess not.

This level of reckless/careless/inattentive driving never ceases to piss me off to no end. But I will hold any further judgement not knowing the particulars of the situation. Maybe warning signage was blown over or not properly placed, maybe there was a hill or curve obstructed view of the stopped traffic. Or maybe the driver was driving while drowsy or fatigued, or maybe the driver was watching a movie on his phone. Who the hell knows at this point besides the truck driver.

Just wow. The attorneys are going to have a field day with this.

That flag man is an idiot. So is the driver.

    Poor guy in the pickup.

Hindsight is always 20/20, but I'm thinking the thing to have done is just let the truck go.
Which means either the flag man wasn't properly trained, or choked.

Well, the flatter thought he was a matador, but with all that flat ground the truck could have gone left. Why was he flying with cars stopped? Terrible judgement.

I think we can safely assume he either didn’t see the stopped cars or the sight of stopped cars did not register in his mind so that adjustments could be made. Therefore he was operating at normal speed assuming normal conditions.

If cars are stopped on a road for no reason i assume caution should be foremost. That said, some flagger making minimum wage and thinking he's the God of traffic control doesn't help. Sign on stick versus semi? No contest.

I questioned this too but watched the video again. There is a car in front of the red pickup. Thats the other car they are talking about getting hit and you can see it rolling over a couple times.

Also agree that the flagger is part to blame here. The trucker after plotting his escape route down the lane had to abandon that when the guy couldn't make up his mind on where to go. Whole lotta mistakes clamed a couple innocent lives here.

Right.....so the dude is standing there.
He gets the word to let them through.
He makes eye contact with the red truck, and waves him through.
He steps off to the side of the road, looks up, starts to wave the other dude over, sees that the dude is about to run him over, runs in the opposite direction just about the same time as the truck driver changes his direction. And then runs back.
Can someone please point out what the guy did wrong?

Ok here is how I see it and why Im putting a little bit of blame on the flagger.

The big sign on the side of the road says "Pilot care in use please wait here". Notice there is no pilot car on the scene. Also if there had been the truck would have noticed a line of cars leaving the construction zone and there most likely wouldn't have been an accident cause he woulda been paying a little more attention HOPEFULLY.

Anyways the flagger is bsing with the car in front of the pickup, catches a glimps of the truck coming in hot which has probably already started to establish his escape route down the oncoming lane, flagger does a double take then jumps over there to wave his little sign at a 95,000+ pound bull coming at him, trucker goes crap and goes to go left, but the smart sign guy goes left, so the trucker naturally jerks her back right to not run over chicken man who then runs back right, but its to late and the truck clips the camera truck and the red pickup all while pile driving the car into the ditch and killing the guys inside. Ive never been to flaggers school but Im guessing they dont tell you to run around like a confused chicken. I for one woulda run for protection behind the stopped line of cars and left the path clear for the truck but thats just me and my two cents.

Bro, when you see that much truck coming at you that fast, you do whatever it takes to get out of the way
Trucker was trying to miss the flag man, flag man was trying to miss the trucker. They both went the same direction
