Anyone here familar with sealing leaks in dryvans ? I have high cube Wabash that leaks on the top rail where the stringer meets the side.I looked on the roof and it looks good, no repairs or holes or loose rivets. I thought maybe there is some type of spray I could use to seal the general area ?

There is also "cold tar"... it is a balck goo that can be applied cold right out of the can... The area must be dry for it to stick. I've used it a lot on roofs.. It's similiar to the silver stuff for RV's but more like roofing tar.... Be prepared to get messy working w/ this stuff..

Try Lowes, Home Depot, or True value hardware stores.. I've bought quart, and 1/2 gal. size cans...

anyone try anything besides smearing "coal tar" on the roof?

i have had sporadic leaks in my metal roof van for a while, taken it to four different shops, they do "something" but in a few weeks, its leaking again

I am thinking a "smoke test" but cant figure out the best way of creating lots of smoke without staining the inside

Tubes of silicone calk seem to be what I would use. Its tougher than nails, doesn't run when hot from the sun, and sticks like stink on a monkey.

    thanks for the suggestions

tell you what i am going with, and i will let you know what works

firstly, everyone and their brother has put some type of goo on the roof, which makes finding the leak(s) more difficult, the surfaces have become hard and non-pliable and show signs of cracking.

so what i am going to do is conduct a smoke test using baby oil (a guy at an auto part store says this is what they use in dance clubs for effect)

the dry ice idea didnt seem like it would fit the bill, because the "fog" stays bottom and does not rise

i tried the baby oil in the house on an electric eye of the stove and it smoked pretty good

i will get back to you on the results
