I wear shorts and work boots. It's our uniform. Along with a reflective work shirt. Try climbing around a car carrier all day in cowboy boots and jeans and a long sleeve shirt and get back to me.

I use a pair of USMC pattern Civilian Boots made by the same factory (Branded on the heel to prevent accusations of poser etc) that makes the actual military issue boots. Essentially the tankers version for vehicle work. Plain for summer or winter use. They are not cheap but it is what it is.
One of these days I'll find a replacement for the pair I had, that company I believe went out of business long ago. It was literally at the Union 76 branded store inside Frederick when I picked up that pair. I could not understand then at 21 just how durable and long they lasted for what I put them through in all weathers.2old and #wishfulthinking Thank this. -
I would be involuntarily committed to a sanitarium out of my head for the things Ive seen and done out there myself long ago. But you learn to box it up and move on with life. And have a little fun along the way.
Having fun did not pay very much of anything so to speak but it was worth it. It helps decompress and prevent sort of going Postal with a 40 ton vehicle. (That's no good. Can't have that...)
One example of fun would be to load a trainee up with a whole bunch of little details in paper work. When person starts to exhibit physical signs of stress (Purple or blood vessals going in neck or head etc) I'll add one little request. Check that seal back there make sure it matches the logs you have on there. (By now trainee is buried in 6 or 7 different requests to be done pretty much asap.)
While trainee marches back towards the doors to get the seal number cursing my parentage, lineage, ancestry and everything else under the sun, Ive had that tractor trailer gently released on the service brake and rolling backwards slower than the trainee is walking (Usually by the middle marker light)
It will be a while before trainee stops dead and screams #### this is a long trailer. And then 2=2 being part of a joke. Sometimes I pay for that in knots and blood. But it's all good. -
