IRP and IFTA are for commercial moves not moving his travel trailer.

You can document not for Hire private use mileage. It's like paying for diesel for your diesel pusher RV.

Don't mix the two. They are separate

 

I simply meant that I would track the information, not necessarily report it. That way you are covered because you still have a record of what you did.

 

Yeah, if you ever get an IRP or IFTA audit you will need to explain those miles...

NJ Auditor [bulk fuel] caught one of our owner operators not recording the miles from terminal to home as every time he came off the road, the next trip began about a round trip to his home higher in oddometer readings. These guys trained the current state auditors so CYA is the order of the day.

The one guy I knew with a 5th wheel camper only used his tractor between home and the trailer dealer and kept his pickup because most of the places the camped had low hanging trees and other 'spacial' problems back in the 70's before the huge bus-like self contained units today.

 

Thank you @wis bang . All they want is an explanation of why the mileage is different than the report filed. Does not mean you have to send that information in, just keep the records so it is obvious you weren't hiding information.

 

auditors expect the next day's beginning odometer reading to match the last ending reading as they expect you to keep this information for a zillion years just for them. A few miles won't make a huge difference but extensive, long distance vacations would be a problem without documentation and a few pictures of truck and trailer in a camp ground would help too.....

I had 6 daycabs that came from Canada and I didn't know they measured in metric until the auditor showed me that was the only possible way my numbers would match...D'Oh!
