It's great. It will alert you within 2 miles that there is an inspection station ahead and give you the green light if the weigh station wants you to have a green light. It does run on 3g, but dont be alarmed it picks up everywhere. Only system running on 4g is people net tablets, but they cost some $2500 a piece.

To a company that lobbied hard in favor of the mandate.

I could replace my Garmin every 6 months for what you're paying...in addition to your initial purchase cost. The Garmin GPS will also track IFTA (as will any other "truck specific" GPS), so really, what are you getting for your monthly fee? Prepass costs a fraction of what you're paying to bypass weigh stations, and even then, you won't burn $50/month worth of extra fuel having to roll through them.

They lobbied for the mandate, and you're rewarding them for their effort with no real added benefit to what was already available for lesser cost to you.

That is one of the most ignorant comments I've read around here. Why? Because I'm keeping AT LEAST $50/month more than you. How so? Because the ELD I'm using doesn't cost me a #### thing "per month", where yours does. What CAN'T you do because you allowed your overhead to go up by more than $50/month? That's an extra date night with the wife. That's enjoying another ball game or trip to the zoo or a museum with the kids. Save it up for a year and that's a good chunk of a simple vacation. Christmas could be that much better for your family. There are a lot of things you COULD be doing with that money besides forking it over to a company that lobbied for a mandate which increased your overhead.

...but hey, you know it all, right? Keep willingly sending your money to anyone who lobbies government in order to increase their own profits AT YOUR EXPENSE and there won't be any end to the line of folks trying to get in on the action with more mandated BS for you to buy. In the meantime, the $50/month you're spending on your ELD doesn't get you a single $0.01/mile more than the person running an ELD that they bought for a fraction of the cost and no monthly fees. And you know what? You're no more compliant with the HOS than they are as they gross just as much WITHOUT the expense.

20 Mule Team and Timin770 Thank this.

No I dont know it all. Look i dont have to prove anything to anyone. I give my advice for business because I make money the legal way and I've got my own authority and if you dont wanna listen then dont listen. I purchased IVG because it helps me and my business. Go out and get 1 strike against your dot number and your ### will be sitting in the dog house every day. So it makes no difference to me, just trying to help someone is all.

I work to MAKE money. Something that requires that I, and I quote, "BE PREPARED to pull out your wallet" is not going to be "the best" when it comes to the end goal of making money...not when there are plenty of options out there that do the exact same thing at a fraction of the cost. You got suckered into paying too much for something, and I get that you feel the need to defend that purchase...but it is hardly "the best" option, and is no more or less compliant than my Garmin ($250 off the shelf, 30 seconds to install, and NO monthly fees). You like throwing money away...and that's fine. Whatever makes you happy.

I have the Dézl570 and use a tablet. I think the #80 series might be stand-alone with the ELD...but since I don't have one of those, I couldn't tell you for certain.

I’m not a fan of the bring your own device options.
I use Coretex and have been really happy with them.
Rand McNally TND760 Fleet Edition is a good unit. I used it when I was leased to someone.

Omnitracs XRS is a bring your own device option but it worked very well and, being Omnitracs, you have that support behind it. It is also low cost being its bring your own device.
