I'd prefer a bank debit card also.

The Green Dot ones far as I know are decent enough. I have one also. An I've had mine for...10 to 15 years or so. Any issues I've had are just the same as I'd have with a normal credit card. I like mine cause I'm not a fan of the big banks. When they tried to charge me to WITHDRAW my own money from a teller I said screw it an pulled it all out. I now primarily use my credit union and the green dot card.

I can't speak for the others but, from my own experience..Green dot is ok. There are also Western Union ones, Walmart, Visa/MC etc etc. There is a fee on my card. 3.95 to 4.95 to reload at a register, an then there is a ten dollar monthly fee if you don't have direct deposit. So easily avoidable. Plus a lot of places sell the Green Dot card. 7/11, Kangaroo/Circle K, Walmart, grocery stores, etc. Almost forgot...if you do direct deposit you can get it on your card up to 2 days before your pay date. My wife uses them for this reason. They've never failed to pay her early. Just need to have direct deposit set up with them.

Any issues with fraud I could see is if one is using it online. Physical transactions I think are just the same as a normal old card far as risk goes. Good cyber security will also help. Don't use your card with your cell phone, proper firewall set up, proper virus detector, etc.

. I would avoid taking all that cash though. All it takes is one person to see it on you, an your now a potential victim.

Worse case...you get the card an use it til you find another option that works.

Oh an ATM fees in general. If you look around you can usually find fee free atms.

Good luck to the OP. You should update this thread an let us know what you decided to do once your training is over, and how it worked out for you. Might help some that come after you.
