W2 the employer pays half of FICA, 1099 the "contractor" pays 100%.

I don't pay social security and medicare at once. And my employer pays for some of it. You have to pay a big lump sum come tax time. I get money back.

And if you try to cheat your way into paying very little you will find yourself with a huge bill to the ruthless IRS. They'll be prodding all in your assets and bank accounts looking at what they can take from you and put liens on any property you own.

If you do things honestly you will pay WAY more in Federal tax, social security and Medicare than someone with W2.

The only thing you win with 1099 is paying for the obligations your employer is supposed to pay for.
    They are screwing you.

You pay more than 10% just in S.S. Some where around 15 or 16% in S.S.alone. Plus the fact, hope you got insurance to cover you in case you are involved in an accident because on a 1099 you are an independent contractor and could be held responsible for the whole 9 yards.

De Trucker and Oldironfan Thank this.

With company drivers loosing per diem next year them 1099 jobs doesn’t look as bad if you can find one that is worth a crap.. that’s seems to be hard part tho, finding one that actually pays their bills and are not full of shady practices to screw everyone they come in contact with.. I would be more concerned with loosing benefits working 1099 as I would paying self employment tax.. insurance and 401k match far outweigh self employment tax.. I’m a owner operator and decent health insurance that isn’t crazy expensive is impossible to come by..

Those who say not to absolutely are also a big percent of the group looking for a new job.

1099 tax isn’t bad just find a good adjuster.

I worked for the Russians for a while they took good care of me, they sure will bend over backwards to keep you running. without them I wouldn’t own my own trucks living the life I do. Company driver for the Russians the most tax I paid back ever was like 1800$. If you can’t save 2000$ out of the 80k you make then apply at McDonald’s.
And this is now how I pay my Driver as well.

But in the end it’s about what you want to do. Skeptics are everywhere and the negative comments are from those who have no idea.

This makes no sense. You can have one or the other. But not both.
