When trying to find out what I can haul in cargo do I look at gcwr? For instance the 99 f350 super cab with a 7.3 and 4:10 gears shows a gcwr of 20k. Is that the weight truck, trailer, and load? If so that's not much.
Figureing Loaded weight, question.

The truck is a dually. Towing guid has it at 20k gcwr unless I'm reading it wrong. If the truck weights 5500 and the trailer weighs 7800 that leaves 6700. That's not very much. It has air bags and I heard that increases gcwr but I cant find anything that says that officially.

Go to 2003 guide pg 19. Shows 12,500 to 13,000 for max loaded trailer. Even with 5th wheel.

I don’t think the air bags officially change anything thought they do help reduce sag. Trucks have increased tow capacity tremendously over recent years. For example my 2017 dually has a gcwr of around 40k. The newer trucks have better brakes, stiffer frames, stronger engines, better cooling, etc.
