So I have a October 1994 built DDEC 3 379 EXHD. Nicest truck ive owned First Detroit .Normally been a Cummins and have owned two CATS .Really impressed with it. Better economy and quiet . I've done my research and see where DDEC 4 is better economy and power capable . What would be involved in swapping to DDEC 4 And was looking at the 14l DDEC 4 if I can find one reasonable. Any words of advice?
DDEC 3 to DDEC 4, swap?

As far as I recall , you just change the ecm, or maybe it was just reprogram it.

If I’m remembering correctly, the DDEC 3 was still considered a ECM, has 4 plugs and comunicated with the cab controls with a small control box and comunicated on the J1939 circuit (protocol). The DDEC 4 has a MCM with 120 pin connector (engine side harness) and a 21 pin connector (truck side) and communicates to the cab to a CPC over the CAN curcuit.
I’m sure a person can exchange a DDEC 3 for a 4, but they’ll need to be able to read a wire schematicJammer' and Oldironfan Thank this. -
That's fine .I was just hoping it wasn't a rewire the cab to control and receive the data.

If that is the case does anyone have the serial for the non egr 14l? I've seen 6 with holes in the block but never thought about grabbing the sn for future use.
