I Like using rope for my tarps. It take a bit longer when loading but the unloading goes so much quicker then bungees.

When I tarp for some reason I have this notion in my head that I must pinch the tarp between the edge of the trailer inside the rub rails and my rope or bungies. My thinking is this creates a more water tight seal and maybe keeps wind from going under the tarp. For example I try to pull the bungies towards the inside of the trailer and not around the rub rail. Does this matter at all?

It certainly helps to pinch the tarp with the bungees. Most of what I tarp doesn’t need to be kept absolutely dry.

Rather then pinching the tarp ,it is better to have tension on the tarp at the side.

Why do you ask. The company supplies 8’ drop lumber tarps with flaps. I have my own green 16x32 that’s boxed out with d rings. I also have access to 24x36, 24x40, 40x40, and I think a 40x60. No flaps.
    Here is the gray 40x40.

And same load with the 40x60.

A few loads from this week.

15’10” x 68’ laser table. Took two of them 40 miles one way on Monday. The second one had to be tarped. Let’s just say it wasn’t quite picture worthy.

Then I added to my company’s collection of tarps for the next load.

14’6”x56’ “crate” more like random pieces of wood and thin aluminum. Had to be bottom tarped and top tarped. A 16x32, 18x24 and some plastic underneath. 2 24x36 over the top.
