Day 2 of refresher training complete and it went a whole lot better. I'm feeling more confident now. I drove about 50 miles and passed the road evaluation. The instructor said I'm ready to go and he doesn't have any concerns. Tomorrow is the yard skills and evaluation but I'm not all that concerned with that. I can straight line and offset. Might be a wee bit rusty on the 90 degree alley dock because I almost never do them. Most of my backing had been 45 degree. But the instructor claims he's got a fool proof method for making it work. Well, LOL, we'll see if this fool can make it happen. I almost got cut off by a 4 wheeler at 65 mph in Charlotte traffic. That was a bit of fun .... Not!!!
Made a friend during this whole thing and it's kind of cool because we're both going to be in Coraopolis, PA for tanker training together. Both of us are gonna be roomies up there so we don't get put with a total strangers.
We were both in the same truck together with one other guy and a girl. The other guy really had no business driving a truck. He was afraid of the #### thing and never used his mirrors. He just stared straight down the road. I'm thinking that the instructor probably didn't pass him. It was a bit white knuckle at times. My buddy and I breathed a sigh of relief when it was my turn. If Schneider gives this dude the go ahead, I sure wouldn't want to be his trainer. Holy Moses!!!
The journey to restart my driving career as a tanker yanker

Day 3 of refresher training was a long one and nothing really much to write home about. We spent it on the yard practicing alley dock, straight line, and offset. It was just hotter than blazes! I'm a northerner so Charlotte's heat and humidity was oppressive.
Today I'm at the airport headed to Pittsburgh for orientation and tanker training which starts tomorrow. Finally bound for Coraopolis and the next big adventure. Will let everyone know what orientation is like.Njhandofdoom, qbertsrevenge, WesternPlains and 4 others Thank this. -
I look forward to reading more.
They should be reminded. I and others have a problem with their not allowing intelligent life forms in the truck. And humans don’t register on my gizmo as intelligent life forms. That’s a deal breaker for me. -
10 speed with a tanker.... Not unless the loads were much lighter then I'm used or the trucks were absolute power houses. I have only pulled tankers with 13 or 18 speeds. Anything else doesn't seem like enough gearing for 102k max gross weight that my truck is legal for.

Looking forward to more on Coraopolis tanker training!

Sadly, I could not pass the pre-work screen. I guess I still have more weight to lose first. Will be going to the van division next week. It's a minor setback but perfectly okay. I'll wait 6 months and try again.

I dont know what that test involved, but my guess is a big increase in stamina would put you over the top. Here's what I want you to do:
Go get you a pair of 25-30lb dumbells. Then go for a walk. Walk until you cant. It will be like adding 50-60 lbs on your bodyweight. Your hands will ache and your lungs will burn, but they will strengthen rapidly. Next week, you will be able to walk farther and hold the weights longer. Every week, your stamina will vastly improve. Extra stamina will make you a whole new Man.
Luck in battle.mattymatt Thanks this. -
