In the last 6 months have replaced turbo, egr cooler, egr valve, boost pressure sensor, egr temp sensor, egr differential pressure sensor, injectors and cups. Truck runs like crap. Fuel economy is 5.1 mpg. Volvo in Nashville says its because the truck is a 500hp straight torque engine. Im ready to burn it and go do something else with my life.

I don't understand straight torque. All engines make a certain amount of power. Minus hotel load on it (Alternator, water pump, air conditioning etc) and there is a certain subtraction of power via the transmission, rear ends before you realize the get up and go or get up and fall down off the drives at the pavement.

If a truck is truly crappy, why are you still hanging on to it silly? (This is rhetorical in general, not a specific insult against you. I don't know you from Adam, follow me? If I don't know you, how can I insult you proper? =)

Sell it and get another truck that has the moxie and get up and go you seek.

Im assuming you replaced the turbo and all the other stuff with factory OEM or equivalent and did not try to pump it up. I am not a turbo know it all. All I know is that a engine is supposed to make a certain amount of work possible in a fixed time against various terrain such as mountain upgrades. For example Townhill near Breezewood is 5% for 4 miles. If I had a old Cummins big cam, at 80000 from the early 80's I expect to settle at about 19 to 21 mph. If I had a 350 mack with short gears made in the mid 90's which is a much newer engine and truck it will run that 46 or so mph upgrade. Modern Detriots can pretty much run that not too far under the speed limit loaded.

The reason I remember such details was because that hill was a problem in the older cummins costing me time I don't have. DM Bowman gave me a brand new Mack that was able to double my speed upgrade and get back the 18 or so minutes I lost with the older truck which is useful for maintaining a appt time at a particularly important lumber store just south of Fishertown off 56 near Altoona every morning. For what's its worth I was picked for that run because it could be winter ice all over it and I'll have it perfect on time at 8 am sharp or 3 minutes early which is what they loved very much. (Get going, yer late)

Anyway story telling aside. What I am trying to emphasize is this. If a engine does not satisfy you like a bad lover to use a poor comparison, sell the #### thing and get another tractor that will satisfy you. Just make sure it does not have all the overhot 1200 degree emissions crap on it.

Need more information on how the truck is equipped and how long this has been going on.

Volvo is noted for being harder to get modifications done, from what has been related to me.

There are also many issues that can cause poor performance in nearly any engine/drivetrain combination.

Truck is D13 500hp. 13 speed manual. 3.42 rockwell rears. Volvo has 2 options straight torque and eco dual torque. I am not selling it because it is paid off and my credit is not satisfactory enough for a new one.

The problem with an independent shop is thy don't have the software for the ECM. Volvo hangs on tight to their stuff.

Is the dual torque even available with a 13 speed set up like yours?

A friend was driving one, geared for heavy pulling, and he couldn't get good fuel mileage either. Probably similar rear ratio. Truck had many issues, and he's company. So it wasn't up to him to fix. He was finally put in a new one, specced for fuel economy, and the fuel mileage is on par with what you'd expect.

I hope someone is able to get you pointed towards resolving the problems.
