That’s one great thing about modern day computers, you can practice the ham test as many times as you want on line. Then when you feel confident, you can go take the test. It sure makes a big difference from what they used to do years ago.

In the old day you learned the theory and how the circuit worked.

kc0ivSlowmover1 and Night Stalker10 Thank this. -
Yes, that's very true. Seems like they had to drive to Newington Connecticut to take the exam. I was told the test cost $150. That was a lot of money back then, and if that wasn't bad enough, some people probably drove from the west coast to take it. I can't imagine failing that exam, and then trying to explain to your wife (if married) that you blew several hundred $$$'s. I think you had to wait 1 year before you could take the test again...but I'm not sure. I assume the FCC wisely made up that rule knowing it would probably take a year for the man to get up enough nerve to tell his wife he wanted to travel back east and take the test again...LOL.Slowmover1 Thanks this. -
Never was $150. I remember they were $35 for each element, but that could be just for the professional licenses.
The tests were before the big change administered by the FCC at the feild office.
I passed my third class radio telephone, then I failed my second on the same day, but went back and got my second and first on the same day, I think it was $35 for each test.
